CAR15 "stubby stock"

Somewhere I saw a pic of an early CAR that had a stock resembling a shortened A1 buttstock. Anyone seen one of these? supposedly the first model CAR... also supplied with a short triangular handguard. I've got a 16 inch CAR upper with the triangular handguard on the way. I'll be putting the teardrop forward assist in, and if it's real and period I want one of those stocks.

I think RRA makes one called a "Entry" stock or something, sorry that I can't remember the correct diffinition.

I never saw a XM-177 (CAR-15) with anything other than a sliding stock. I did not see many CAR-15s when I was AD, so perhaps someone else has better 411.

Yes, there was an early version of the CAR that had just such a stock, and shorty triangle handguards. I can't recall the model number, and I can't find pix online at the moment. If you go to Subguns and post about this, there is a guy whose screen name is WA Tom who makes repro parts for this version. He has a website, but I'm drawing a blank looking for it.

Bushmaster sells them for 70 bucks... I have one on a carbine.

The high dollar version you are looking at is a "collectors correct" sort of thing.

The Sully Stock is a great option if you want a short fixed stock. A bit pricey but well made.

If it's real & period, and a CAR-15, I betcha it would have a "slick side" upper with no FA.

The later (Colt model 733) XM-177E1 had the sliding stock, shell deflecter, and FA.

The XM607 is a two-position collapsible stock. The Sully, RRA Entry, and the Bushmaster Stubby stocks are fixed stocks that are just short. The RRA and Bushmaster Stocks are as short as you can go with the standard carbine tube, and the Sully is about 3/4" longer if I recall correctly.

The only thing I've seen on the market that is a shorty solid stock with a variable LOP works differently:

But the XM607 was a short stock that slid on the buffer tube like the later CAR and M4 stocks, and other modern collapsible stock variants.
