The good people at Mech Tech passed on to me that they will be offering Springfiled XD-compatible CCU's by the end of the year. I'm guessing for 9mm and .40 as well, but I know of .45acp for sure. This is news well-received!

    How does this work?

Is this a carbine that takes XD45 mags, or a carbine conversion kit for an XD45 (like I've seen for 1911s)?

A carbine conversion that uses the XD frame.

Correct; CCU stands for carbine conversion unit, using a pistol frame & trigger/hammer group and magazine fitting into the action and barrel for a carbine. Pretty darn slick and fills the inexplicable void in affordable .45acp carbines. Perhaps Ruger and HiPoint will come around someday...
