I know this is probably a really dumb question, but what does "carbine" mean? I mean, I looked it up in the dictionary, and it says something about lightweight military rifle or something like that, but can anyone elaborate?

    Thanks in advance guys.

And looking into the etymology, it looks like a slang adapted from a French root meaning "gravedigger." :p

A shorter rifle, being the barrel that is shortened and usually chambers a smaller round.
