Carbon 15 by bushie!

I've always thought that the M16/AR was well overweight, and watched the Carbon 15 with interest, followed by dismay.

But, with Bushmaster in the mix, what do you people think?

Rifle comments only, since I think the "pistol" version is a joke: 'course, I forgot to buy one of the original Bushmasters, which has gotta be a mistake of the highest order!

I'm glad to see Bushmaster getting this system under their control.

having happily sold off a Carbon 15 a while back I can say that Bushmaster cound make a good weapon out of it if they improved on.........well, everything.

That looks very cool to me. I hope they work, I may have to eventually buy one. As if I don't own enough AR15s as it is.

And yes, I could see myself with the pistol. Yet another toy to play with that has no practical use that I can immediately think of.

OK, I take back the "joke" comment, although I'd never consider buying one...

Looks like an interesting weapon: I'll have to wait and see how the "new" one works out, not to mention the pricing.

IF Bushmaster alters them to take mil-spec parts (unlike the Professional Ordnance carbon 15) then I'm already thinking 4.5# 9mm AR

As for the pistol... I could see it being fun to have... Why not? I hate revolvers, so if I want a more powerful pistol....

Now if they really wanted to make me happy they would redesign their bullpup, work out all of the kinks and bugs that it has had for years, and make in a carbon fiber shell instead of sheet metal. That would rock.

I don't know about stocks specifically, but the original Carbon 15 didn't take much of anything that wasn't made by Professional Ordnance. Barrels, handguards, and free float tubes didn't interchange. I doubt the stocks would either, as they had a "quick release" stock that locked to the lower with a lever/catch thing.

That's what I hope Bushmaster changes about them... ACE Boom Stocks and a Bushmaster Superlight barrel... If they make 'em Mil-Spec (minus the material), I WILL build a 9mm AR with one.

Correia: you have a great point, and I'm following you. Outside of the idea of having my handloads go off just under my right eye, and the fact that the bullpup was a pig in terms of weight, I'd forgotten that that one was on my "want" list.

Still can't see the point of the "pistol", but to each...

Ben, I'm with you. If they make it out of CF they can mold a plate of some kind over the action. If it blows up then the shooter should be pefectly safe. That is what SAR is doing with their new 21. I just think that the Bushy BP has a lot of potential should they ever get all the kinks worked out and market it a little.

..............but I actually owned one of the POS-es and also work with carbon fiber aircraft & bike components. What P.O. (intrestingly close to POS) calls 'molded' carbon fiber is just some sort of plastic that in no way has any of the strength/lightweight benifits of carbon fiber construction. Just the term 'molded' gives away the fact that there is no 'fiber' of grain. It was just a clever marketing tool that sold alot of rifles. Too bad they did not put more time into design over materials.
