Carfax for guns?

anyone know of a websight where you can check the S# of a gun to see if it has ever been used in a crime or reported stolen? I buy several guns a year from the local classifieds, and something like that would provide great peace of mind.

"Law Enforcement" has no interest in this at all. I've proposed such a database around and had absolutely no interest shown.

Here in California, I've asked the police about how to check numbers & they will only do it if you first buy the gun and then bring it in.

If anyone has some idea of how to setup such an online database, contact me and maybe I'll set one up.

I've also proposed a law be passed in every state with some kind of enhancement for stealing a gun & knowingly buying / selling a stolen gun. That's the only gun law that would actually help with "crime guns". However, that's not the objective of politicians so they don't care. They are only after honest people.

Buy from an honest dealer, or take the gun in to have it checked.

Aren't the S/N's checked when they're transfered through a FFL?

I tried to find such a data base on the internet several years ago without success. I deduced there must be one someplace but, it's kept secret by the govt.

I had a gun stolen many years ago. I reported it and wanted to see if I could find it listed on a database.

It was my ex that took it (that's called; an allegation). She got into my house and took it from my closet so I know it isn't far. I'd just like to know that if she or someone else were to ever try to sell it legally that it would surface so I'd get it back. It was a nice Colt Diamondback 38 spcl.

Oh, when I reported it to the police I told them it was her that took it they called her on the phone and after their conversation with her, agreed she was lying to them and that they also suspected her of having it. So they made a report. Wasn't it nice of them to do that?

Since then I haven't had a house gun that's easily or quickly accessable. Just the way the gov't wants us. :banghead:

It's been under construction for about 6-8 months,buying used from a cealer is not foolproof.I bought a pistol that had been in my friends shop for over a year,i later traded it at a another shop.4 days later they called and said it was stolen,the police later returned it stating they could not contact the owner and it had been stolen 21 years ago.
