I could probably find this out with some searching, but I thought I'd ask my THR friends in Texas if they know. I'm escorting my 15 year old daughter and a couple of her friends to a concert at Stubbs in downtown Austin. Does anyone know if Stubbs has posted the appropriate sign to prevent me from carrying there? As I understand the setup, the concert venue is outdoors and separated from the bar area, so not problem with the 51% rule. I'd just like to know if I'm going to be prevented before I get there so I don't have to walk back to the car. Thanks.

No idea how they do it out there, but around here pretty much every nightclub, concert venue, and big bar frisks you at the door and/or has metal detectors. So yeah, your plan is probably going to hit a snag unless they don't have security at concerts there? But I highly doubt that.

I'm not sure it would be accurate to say the concert area is separate from the bar. There is a concert entrance, sure, but you can walk from there right into the back entrance of the bar and vice versa. It's been a few years since I've been there, but I would think 51% would be a problem.

That said, Austin's downtown is a lot safer than most cities. I would carry a knife, situational awareness, and a stern look when needed. That's it.

If they're allowing "under 21s" at the event, it's probably not a bar, at least in Texas. Therefore, it probably won't have the 51% sign.

I haven't been to Stubb's, but it is marketed as a restaurant. I wouldn't worry about it. If by some miracle you were stopped by the police and you were found to be carrying (unintentionally afoul of the law), you could always exclaim, "You allow entrance to minors AND you derive more than 51% of your profits from on-premises alcohol consumption!"

Don't take your guns to town, boy. Leave your guns at home son.

You are talking about AUSTIN, not some place where logical thinking and rights are regularly exercised. You won't get in the door. Or worse, you will get in and then be thrown out, probably into the waiting arms of APD whose attitude is "We'll arrest you now and your lawyer and the judge can hash it out later."

I went to texas3006.com and could not find Stubbs. Are you sure?

Edit: When I did my first search I searched by city and Stubbs did not show up. I searched again for all entries and, yep, there it is. 51% sign.

I'm going to just go by and see. I'll be down there for the State Basketball finals tomorrow anyway. My guess is that the concert area is NOT 51% because they allow all ages. I think I'll only have to worry about the 30.06 sign. Thanks for the help guys. I'll report back.

I escorted my family to a concert at Stubb's last night. They have a 51% sign at both entrances to the restaurant, but none at the concert gate. I spoke with the manager and we looked at their liquor license and it says SIGN=RED. I asked him if that was their only license or if they have another (separate) one for the concert area. He said that they only have the one. As it is not my place to tell him how to run his business, I did not inform him of the legal need to post a sign at the concert gate, but it appears illegal to carry in any part of Stubb's.
