Carry gun the same for the Nightstand gun

Nightstand is SilencerCo Maxim9 - integrally suppressed semiauto 9mm, hearing safe when loaded with 147’s.

EDC is usually a G19 GenII or Ruger LCP, depending upon attire.

My wife carries a Sig P320 Compact 9mm, and uses it on her nightstand as well, but does occasionally have her SigSauer P224 40s&w on the nightstand.

On days when I work, it is usually my issue GLOCK 19. On my days off, it will be my off duty gun, frequently a GLOCK 42 or SIG 365. If I am planning to go to the range, then it will probably be the gun that I am taking to the range.

Double-stack 9 mm w/spare magazines in the nightstand. Small or tiny (NAA .22 mag) in my pocket at home. Have a pump shotgun out of the safe at night. (Also have electronic security system that we turn on when we turn in for bedtime. And we have a big dog; arf arf.)

Handguns = get me to the shotgun. Also have accessible center-fire rifle just in case some very rare/unpredictable event happens (if someone is outside shooting through the walls of my house, I can return fire through the walls of my house, i.e. FMJ 7.62NATO or 7.62 Nagant FMJs).

Life can get mega strange -- go figure. Witness the mass-shooter (18 killed) up in Nova Scotia, Canada, who posed as a police officer and stole a patrol car (after killing the officer who had been driving it ) That psycho went to people's front doors. The civilians killed had trusted that he was an actual officer. If a cop comes to your door, call the police to confirm that they know that the officer is there and why. If the police or sheriff's department doesn't know why any officer should be there, then a Code Red condition exists. Hunker down, announce that the police are on the way, and wait until the REAL police arrive. There is no shortage of aggressive psych-cases out there. Once upon a time, we hospitalized these sick people before they hurt themselves or others.

I have a Shockwave handy but the pistol is my go to.

My outlook:
If/when one can dress as they choose, not limited by work clothes.*
At home I have other weapons handy (Shockwave) as well as two large dogs, more resources at home than out in public.
If I would settle for nothing less than 9mm to defend my life at home, then out in public I would want at least that as no other weapons handy.
Stopping attacker(s) ASAP is desirable wherever; so, if it would not make par for the nightstand why intentionally choose it for elsewhere (see above*).

Yes, when I get changed for the night my EDC stuff gets set on the nightstand. I normally pocket carry a j frame 38+p or in the summer time a LCPII. I also have my XDM compact 45 or 686+ ready to go. I have been considering adding a micro 9mm Shield Plus or Hellcat. In helping me decide if the bigger gun will work for me, I have been carrying my XDM compact, this includes pocket carry (yes it fits fine with a 9 round mag in 5 11 cargos).

 

The reason I got a Ruger American compact was to have a gun for both carry and nightstand duty. I’d use the 12 round magazine with the flush baseplate for carry and then put in the 17 round magazine at home. It’s a little heavy for carry by today’s standards but there weren’t options like the Shield Plus or Hellcat at that time.

Carry Is one of 4 Glocks (42 ,29, 26,20) in that order. Nightstand has a pump gun and an AR between bed and nightstand dogs will wake me up house is set up where you go into the dark to get to the sleeping areas but you are back lighted if you come that way

 

In theory my bedside/home defense pistols are .45ACP 1911s and a .45LC S&W 625MG. In practice, my go to for home defense will be one of the guns I recently carried (generally a CZ PCR, Glock 19, SIG P365, Colt King Cobra, Taurus 85 and/or Taurus 856), with three of them loaded in a quick access safe by my bed any time I'm not wearing one of them.

 

I don't, but I can see why one would.

 

I don't have a dedicated "nightstand" gun. Whatever I carried that day... sits bedside that night.

Then again, I keep my SBR bedside 365 days a year... rather than in the gun cabinet.
Sling, red dot, light, suppressor, 30 rounds... 28 years of training & 3 combat tours of experience with the AR platform. (it's what I'm best / most comfy with)
A handgun is just because it's handy, and so people don't stare at you.

 

A couple of good dogs is a solid foundation for HD. My daughter occasionally dogsits for a wealthy couple with two mastiffs. I can't imagine the scenario where someone thinks breaking into that house would work out well for them. The front door has frosted glass and you can see the two 200-pound dogs looking right at you. My dogs aren't that large, but I still feel comfortable with a revolver by my bed instead of a shotgun.

 

The vast majority of the time I'm carrying a Glock 26. When I go to bed at night I put it on the dresser

Yep my carry is my nightstand gun & as I get up it goes with me.

 

If I had a CCW-New Jersey, still up in the air-yes! One thing I have learned is standardize as much as possible, same guns, same feel, etc.

S&W 642 night stand. G3c carry. But often I will carry the 642 because it fits in my pocket good and I don't care for holsters much.
But, I'm trying to fit my Sar b6 in there somewhere because right now it's my favorite shooter.

 

No gun is left alone. Carry gun is nightstand gun. SP101 with two speed loaders. 38's to start and then .357 in speed loaders.

 

Nightstand gun has a light.
I don't want any garbage to snag or hang up on anything for my EDC.

 

Carry gun and nightstand gun are the same. No trying to relearn different controls at 3AM. Regular practice also keeps auto pilot fresh for if or when the SHTF.
