Will be attending the "Vette's and Jet's on the Lex" in Corpus this coming weekend and am a bit confused.

It is listed as a "museum" but don't know if it still qualifies as a "federal building".

Can I keep a firearm in the car that will be hoisted on top of the aircraft carrier? And two, can I carry one myself or do I have to leave them all back at the hotel???

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Weapons not allowed on a naval warship??

It's not a Naval warship. It is a private museum. If it was a Naval warship, private firearms/weapons would NOT be allowed, except with express permission of the Commanding Officer who, now, must also follow Department of Defense and Department of Navy guidelines regarding private firearms possession on Federal property.

My dad served on the Grey Ghost...a lot of history connected with her. Enjoy your visit.

Call them and ask.... what can it hurt...
It is a well done interpretation.. I have spent many hours on board... My last trip (sadly about 10 years ago) they were setting up for a crew reunion, Hank Williams Jr was to play... Did a walk through of the Hangar Deck with a WWII vet... great stories..

Car Quals

I qualified as a Carrier pilot on the Lex in 1969 in a T-28. Last of the wooden deck carriers. Both the Lexington and the T-28 are retired and I'm still working. ?

When I was 16, I worked in the cafe on the Lexington.

A lot of fun times on that thing. Got to see a lot of the roped off areas too. :)
