Carry Smiths (3914ls & 3953) versus Beretta PX4 compact. A mystery.

I have a Beretta PX4compact in 9m that's the same height and length and just a bit fatter in the grip to accommodate 15 or so rounds than my very flat 8-round 3rd Gen Smiths. And I had it slicked up by Langdon so the trigger on that PX4 is near-perfect.

Logic says it should be my #1 carry gun...lots of bullets, wears super comfortable IWB, has a laser if I want to use it, great trigger, fits my hand well, totally reliable.

Here's the mystery: I keep going to my two Smiths (3914 LadySmith and DAO 3953 Smith) when I go out 'round the neighborhood and I can't figure out why. (I also go for a 6906 for a bullet or two more or a 6946 for DAO).

I just like those guns better for some reason. Maybe it's just 'cause they are thinner. Or I'm just a S&W fan boy. Anyone else defy logic and are partial to the gun not as good "on paper" but carry it "just because?" And I don't feel undergunned with less than 15 or 20 rounds in the mag. 7 or 8 and a reload seems like plenty.).

    Anyway, go figure.

I still carry a 1911. I've been told that they aren't any good anymore. Works well for me though.

Confidence and familiarity go along way to a successful SD outcome. Practice with them all, choose the one you shoot best, discount: specs, round capacity, trigger, etc.

I have many compact pistols to choose from but I too keep returning to a "Third Generation" Smith for edc duties, in my case a Model 6906; one that I toted for the last ten years of duty before retiring.

If you feel more comfortable and confident with the Smiths, and have better muscle memory with them, then they are better choices for you.

I believe you are well protected by either. I lean more to metal framed carry guns; in fact, most of the guns I carry are metal and are models no longer in production. One of them is a Smith 3913 LS, another is a Sig 239.
Relatively heavy, sparse capacity, not tiny, but I like them.

Because they are some rather fine guns?

Be a shame to see that nice PX4 in an evidence locker. Might never get to shoot it again.

    Carry the Smiths.
