Gator Bites Woman's Arm Off

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- An 8-foot alligator surprised a woman who was working in her yard and bit her arm off, according to a Local 6 News report.


Officials said that Helena Kuto, 60, was gardening near a pond in her back yard when the gator named "Henry" jumped out of the water and ripped her arm off.

Kuto was rushed to Tampa Hospital but her condition was not known.

A trapper reportedly located the woman's arm after finding the alligator at the bottom of the pond.

The arm was retrieved from the animal and sent to the hospital but there is no information on whether doctors will be able to save her arm.

Ever see the gators on TeeVee jump out of the water and snatch a tasty treat from the shore? There's no time to react. Even if the victim had a suitable gun, her arm would still be gone.

The proper defense is just being more aware of her surroundings, especially living in gator country. But I guess living with the cute little buggers all day is why she got complacent in the first place.

Yeah, but if she were, uh, armed, she'd stand a better chance of retrieving her appendage. Also, there have been quite a few instances in FL of alligators latching onto kids and people and trying to drag 'em back into the pond over a period of minutes. Even a .22 handgun to bounce shots off the head would be discouraging to a concerted piece of future Runt's reptile luggage.

Okay you guys, this is supposed to be a serious thread about a hurt woman. I am alARMED that so many of you would take advantage of this serious subject to use it for your personal humor.

Frankly, I'm just up in ARMS about it. In fact, I'll go out on a LIMB and say the moderators should take appropriate action.
