I've always left the carry gun at home when I'm out on my motorcycle. I've heard of things falling out of pockets, and I'm worried about landing on my gun in the event of a crash, and it going off. I ride cruisers, (upright/leaned back seating position) if that makes a difference. I carry sub compact, IWB at 4:00 position in a leather holster, and it stays very secure. Thoughts and/or experience here?

I carry in the same position riding a motorcycle frequently. I put a little more thought into cover garments, so the wind doesn’t blow up my shirt or something. I use a crossbreed supertuck deluxe holster, with an m&p compact, it is very secure. Not too worried about a crash, I am a somewhat conservative rider. Upright riding position on a K1200. Not concerned about a gun going off in a crash anymore than I am in a car getting in a crash. Seems to work well, it is actually more comfortable than sitting in a car with seatbelts.

I happen to know that both the Roadcrafter and Darien jackets have an outer upper chest zipped pocket that is suitable for a larger handgun in a holster, but I normally carry (using a pocket holster) in the lower right front flap pocket.

I have also, um, road-tested the Roadcrafter on the freeway and survived an effort to concrete surf with minimal / no injury.

I use the zippered breast pocket in my jacket. My bike is bare bones. So a back pack is the only other option.

I ride a number of different bikes. I ALWAYS wear armored leather or mesh jackets. Because of that, while on a bike I prefer the OTW holster shown at the bottom of the pic at the 4 o'clock position vs my IWB for EDC when not wearing a jacket. A little more comfort and a retaining snap for extra security. With Ruger's transfer bar system I'm not concerned with a discharge in case of an accident.

I was just out Monday trying a different carry position. I have a simple Galco IWB clip holster for my Kahrs, I tried it at 11 O'Clock and it seemed to work OK. My Alpinestars jacket is not laid out very well, if I try to use the inside chest pocket, the left waist pocket overlaps... and bulges big time. It's a sport jacket, and I'm 6'2" bent over a bit on a Ducati, so I can't carry at 3 O'Clock like I normally do... or it would hang out pretty good.

I do need to come up with something better, however. I usually carry in my tank bag on longer trips, and just left it home on local trips... but these days I prefer to be armed everywhere.

I had a spill about 10 years ago while doing 55MPH with a flip phone in my front pocket. I go ATTGAT, All The Gear All The Time, and aside from a dislocated finger which I yanked back into place myself, and a banged up helmet and face mask and shredded clothing, all of which needed to be replaced, I was OK.

The phone, however, must have gotten banged into me a few times as I rolled. My leg had a giant black and blue mark and felt like Thor himself whacked me with his hammer there. I could barely lift my leg to step up a curb, let alone stairs. Lots of pain there for few weeks, muscle must have taken a beating.

I figured if a phone could do that, a handgun would be a lot worse. So, no carry for me while I'm riding. Before I retired, I used to ride to work wearing a gun and suit, no more.

I got stopped one time by a Yonker's motorcycle cop when my suit jacket flapped up and revealed my gun, he also wanted to check out the collectible I was riding, but, that's another story. lol

I ride a 2002 Road King [ that I bought new ] and I have ALWAYS worn in the same place I do at all times [ bar an ankle holster in EXTREME PLACES ].

Worn right side at what many call the 4'oclock position.

I wear OWB 90% of the time and that is generally Kydex and pretty secure/firm.

I have put a BUG in the saddle bags, but only on long hauls, usually a folded carbine or mate to my belt gun [ G-19 ].

I've ridden thousands of miles carrying the same gun in the same holster in the same position as I carry it through out the rest of my life. You don't need guns and holsters to match every "out fit " in your closet.

Black works with every thing.

Same here owned my monkey suit for 20 years this year.will hold any hand gun .

I wear my armored mesh jacket and carry in a Sticky holster in the inner pocket.

Keep it covered, some folks will freak out if a gun pops out from under a cover garment.

A guy I worked with had his outer shirt flap up as he was on his street bike and a couple of motorists dialed 911 and called in a “man with a gun” call. He was carrying a Glock in a OWB “black widow” style belt slide at 3 o’clock.

He got stopped at gunpoint by the highway patrol (I believe) and once it’s was determined he was ok to carry a concealed handgun got a bit of a chewing put by the responding troopers about keeping his CCW concealed.

Good luck finding a rig that’s comfy and still keeps it under wraps.

Stay safe.

I ride. In my riding “career” I have had 9 crashes. I don’t carry on my bike now because I don’t have a carry permit yet. I live in motorcycle heaven - California. It’s hell here for gun owners.
Anyway, when I rode where I could carry I kept these things in mind.
1. If you carry on your torso a gun will shatter rib bones when you bounce and roll on pavement or concrete regardless of the holster. If you carry inside your jacket use a jacket that has low pockets toward the front. Skin, fat and muscle can give when the gun presses into you from impact.
2. Waistband carry. Hip bones and spine are susceptible.
3. Ankle carry works but access is limited.
4. Carrying on the bike is probably the best way to carry on a bike. In a saddlebag, a tool bag, a compartment, inside a holster within a faring.

PS: Don’t carry like the moron in the photo above unless you like riding a wheelchair.

We don’t have that problem in Texas any longer... we are allowed to open carry. I’m not a big fan of OC, however...

I’ve never tried riding with my shoulder holster... may have to give it a try.
