With the carbide sizer handgun die sets do you lube the cases first? I know it says you don't have to but I was wondering if it's a good idea anyway or a complete waste of time.

The only caliber that requires lube with a carbide sizer is the S&W 500. But, 9mm's are much easier to size with a bit of lube on every other case.

yup as others stated, not necessary but a quick spray with some Hornady dry case lube and itll make it soo much smoother

Well if the sizing is still easier with just a bit of lube it seems like it can't be a bad idea. Does the Hornady dry lube leave a film behind that needs to be cleaned off?

there is a small unnoticeable amount of dry film but you do not need to clean it off and it doesnt affect powder. Ive used it for thousands of rounds and have never cleaned them

I use a little One Shot from Hornady when sizing 9mm and 45 ACP brass to make it easier to size but not with other handgun brass. Now that I'm using a Hornady sizing die I find it's not necessary since the Titanium Nitride ring is very slick.

I'm slowly moving to lubricating all my handgun cases before sizing. It just makes sizing easier and since I tumble after sizing anyway, the lubricant gets cleaned anyway.

I've started with lubricating 44 Magnum/Special, 45 Colt, and 460 Magnum but am starting to lubricate 38/9mm caliber cartridges, 40 S&W and 45 ACP as well.

I use a spray lubricant and it does not take very much.
