Cast .358 dia 148 DEWC

I bought some Silver State Bullet brand from Sportsman Warehouse, someone told me they are cast by X-treme ? I can't get these bullets to group well. I weighed ten of them and the weights varied from 146-147.9gr.

The target on the left was SSB DEWC w/ 3.1gr of Bullseye, the one in the middle was Speer 148 BBWC w/ 3.5gr of Bullseye, and the target on the right was shot w/ SSB DEWC w/ 3.4gr of W-231.
The Speer swaged lead WC's (.358 dia)they weigh 148gr +or- a tenth of a grain,
I guess I will load some more of the SSB sorted by weight and see if this helps

Your loads are a tad warmi for that style of bullet. Try 2.7 grains of BullsEye and seat the bullet more-or-less flush with the case mouth. It is not a hot load, just more velocity than that style of bullet likes.

I loaded these DEWCs with 2.7-3.5grs of Bullseye, 3.1gr grouped the best. With W-231 I loaded 2.9-3.6gr and 3.4 grouped the best.

I'd say verify their diameter, maybe too small. Also, buying cast bullets you never really know how hard they are cast, maybe they're too hard?

I have been using some 148 wadcutters from Western Nevada Bullet(Silver State) and been having good luck with them. I wonder if they are the same bullets you have. These are hard cast, no hollow base, they have one lube groove exactly halfway along the bullets length filled with a blue lube. They have a crimp grove near both ends about 1/8" from the end.
If the description of these bullets match the bullets you have there is one important thing I have noticed about these. Even though they appear to be double ended there is one end that has a more chamfered shoulder than the other end. This is the end that I load towards the bottom of the cartridge. You won't notice the difference in the ends unless you look very closely at them( like with some reading glasses or in very good lighting).
I seat them to the crimp grove which leaves a little less than 1/8 sticking out. I don't think these were designed to be seated flush with the case mouth.
They have been very accurate for me out of my Smith 4" model 10 using 3.3 gns. of Titegroup at around 900 fps.
Maybe these tips will help you if the bullets I have are identical to the ones you are using.
As a side note the groups you posted didn't look really all that bad from the photos!

Thanks glocksrfrugly, It sounds like the same bullet, I've been loading them 180 from you I'll try the other end first. The diameter is a bit over .358" the diameter and length seems consistent but after weighing 50 of them the weight varies from 148.5 gr to 145.5 gr. this seems a bit much to me, I would think there would be regulations on bullet weight tolerances

I just got 500 x 158 SWC with the baked on lube to try out. I hope I have better luck. I usually go with the Laser Cuts, but had to try them. They were only $40.00 bucks

Swaged will always be more consistent than cast.
