Guess these case came from someone who has access to Military Ammo in 9mm. Today I was sorting some 9mm which was given to me and found about 10 CBC cases which had a Military Crimp and wouldn't pass my Small Primer Go-No-Go gauge. I got out my RCBS Crimp Remover and removed the Military Crimp. I also ran into one Winchester case which had a Military Crimp and two R-P cases which had Military Crimps. I have no idea that those companies has contracts with making ammunition for the military. Don't know how old these cases are but they has Military Crimps

I have so much range pick up 9MM brass I scrap any crimped cases.
I only have 9mm range brass so I decided to get a press that would handle crimped cases. An RL1100 has the built in swage station, it‘s a bit costly alternative but I don’t have to worry about crimped cases, sorting them, or doing a separate de-crimp step. Time is a four letter word for a reason.
I seem to be following the military or LE crowd and get a lot of crimped versions of civilian brass Including CBC.

Why I run them all trough a 1050, to swage the pocket if crimped, its much faster than sorting them out.

I get the utility of an automatic swager but I always inspect my 9MM brass now due to the possibility of getting stepped brass. You can't load them with the same charge due to smaller internal volume. So while I inspect I also look for swaged primer pockets and put them aside for "if necessary" use in the future. YMMV

I swage them with my Dillion super swage.
I got it do do 5.56 but it see a lot of 9mm too.
Probably half the 5.56/223 brass I pick up is crimped and maybe 20% of the 9mm.

I will remove crimps from .223/5.56 but crimped 9mm goes in the recycle can.
I have plenty of 9mm brass not worth the effort IMO.

Not only Military ... But ... any ammo loaded with "green" Lead Free Primers will be crimped in also ....

If you are loading 9mm Luger and / or 45 acp it is best to check every case for crimped primers ...
And in the case of 45 acp not only crimped but look for small and large primer pockets !

Hate to say it but you need to eyeball every case and do not Assume Anything !

I'm too much of a Tight-Wad Cheap Skate to throw any brass away because of a primer crimp ...
I use my hand tool to remove every one and hoard the brass like it were gold !

My setup catches them.

If I ran into them more than I do, I would probably build a back up rod like my 45 acp swage rod (that culls SPP brass from the shellplate) just checking the inside of the top vs bottom.
