Looking for recommendations on holsters that will allow me to Concealed Carry a full size handgun comfortably. I would like to be able to use my full sizes for more than range toys and not be stuck carrying my LCP and LC9 all of the time. My problem is I am 6' tall, 145 lbs soaking we with my boots on with a 30/34 pant size. I haven't been able to find anything holster wise that It isn't painfully obvious that I am packing. A 1911 for instance is longer from the top of the slide to the bottom of the grip than my sides are across. I also cant seem to find a holster that doesn't dig the butt of the gun into my side if I sit down. What have the rest of the thin folk here came up with that works?

Depends on what your activity routine is. I carry a full size 1911 or a 4" GP100 in a Theis holster (crossbreed supertuck style) at 3:30-4:00 with just a loose polo shirt daily. I am 6' 195.

Good luck...

I think it is easier to conceal a large weapon with an Inside the Waistband (IWB) holster than with an Outside the Waistband (OWB) holster, so I would begin my initial search in the IWB category.

There are two basic IWB designs. Those with loops or clips on the body of the holster, with the Milt Sparks Summer Special II (SS II) being one of the best known. The other is with loops or clips outboard of the holster body. The Sparks Versa Max II (VM II) is one of the best known of this type. The Theis & Supertuck copy this attachment concept but use kydex and leather.

Most find the holsters like the VM II to be more comfortable, but very slim people often find these wide spaced loops wrap too far around their waist to be comfortable or practical. Often it is easier to wear a holster that takes up less space like the SS II type holsters.

I haven't seen many complain about the grip of the gun poking them, but getting poked by a thumb safety, hammer, or grip safety of a 1911 is common. If that is the case look for a holster with a tall sweat shield. Three makers that come to mind with a tall sweat shield are

Andrews MacDaniel II. This uses a single outboard loop, but takes up very little belt space much like the SS II.

Kydex will typically be thinner than leather, but leather is often more comfortable. The hybrid holsters like Crossbreed try to combine the virtues of both, but most have wide space loops.

Expect to try a few different holsters. Most folks have a bunch of holsters. Even if you have a good one, chances are you're going to buy more simply because you hope to find something better.

My activity routine is normally lots of driving. when I do stop I need to be in and out of the truck somewhat quickly at times so I don't want to have to take the time to put firearm on and off.

I generally dress is Pants, and a T shirt, and always wear a belt (partly due to being so skinny)

I am not against wearing another collared shirt over the T as I do a lot of times unless its just to hot that day anyway.

I fell in love with pocket carrying.
Your limited with caliber though.

I'm about 6' 150 lbs or so and I carry a Sig 228 with a Crossbreed Supertuck with a lot of cant. It seems to conceal really well if I'm wearing a collared shirt, but will conceal adequately if I'm just wearing a tshirt. Of course, darker colors work better for that. The holster itself is very comfortable and once you get used to it, you don't feel anything digging into you, even when sitting down. I would recommend the "combat cut" because the lack of extra material makes for a quicker/easier draw, but if you decide to go for more comfort, the extra material (no combat cut) keeps the gun from rubbing up against your side.

The thing that made the biggest difference in getting it to conceal well was a good, purpose made gun belt. I didn't believe it until I tried it, but the belt seemed to make the gun hold really tightly to my side without having to tighten it like a tourniquet. It also helps spread the weight around a bit better instead of having it all on your strong side.

Lol Like i said I use a LCP and an LC9. The LC9 doesn't fit in my shinny pockets without printing but I can comfortably carry it IWB. I want to carry some of my full sizes though instead of just using them as range toys.

I may hafta try the crossbreed.

Remember, that Crossbreed is going to take up a lot of real-estate on your belt.

I've seen a picture of a slim guy with a Sparks VM II, and while I exaggerate a bit, it seemed as if the front loop was over his navel and the back loop was at his spine.

Wear baggier clothes.
If you wear skin-tight pants and shirts, I suspect you would be made just about anywhere and everywhere.

Add a size or two and you are good to go!

If you looked at what size I am then at clothes you would come to the realization that I already buy clothes that are a size or two too big... unless I want to wear women's clothes..

have you given any thought to getting fat? it really help hide a gun.

Any ideas on how to gain a little bulk.. I've tried bad diet. Heck I'm from the south, nothing is cooked right to mee unless it was fried in bacon grease and piled over with butter.. lol I have a bad back so I don't do anything really that strenuous, and even if I did I wouldn't get any bigger. My max weight in my life was 180 and that was just after basic training, just pure muscle weight, no extra size.

I agree, the SmartCarry really does work!
I can wear tight-fitting jeans and have my 642 in the smart carry, along with two speedloaders and no one knows. If they happen to see a little bulge there, what's the big deal?

I don't know if that smart carry would work.. Besides aiming at my junk, i don't know how that would work so well while driving (and I don;t lean my seats way back, it kills my back to be anything other than strait up).. seems to me one would find the butt digging into the old belly a lot. Not to mention my px4 might be a littel to impressive for a bulge down there... lol

I am a slim guy at 6' 155 with a 28/34 pant and with my crossbreed supertuck IWB I can conceal my compact Sig Sauer with 99% of my clothes and I don't wear baggy clothes by any means. I also found the adjustable cant makes its a lot easier, haven't had any rubbing or poking and I honestly forget I am wearing it a lot. Get a good belt and a holster you are comfortable with, you are going to have a little trouble with a Full size 1911 but not impossible. Hope this helps.

Northark,
I have just been going through some similar questioning as I have been trying to find a way to comfortably carry IWB an M&P 9C so it doesn't print. I am not really in your predicament, but similar at 6'3" and 195. I have been mostly a revolver guy and found the key for me to carry a semi was to get as much cant as possible. The more vertical you can get the grip, the less it will print, and will also keep the gun higher on your body and not dig into your butt when sitting, as the frame and slide will be angled across your backside. BTW, I was using a Crossbreed Qwikclip which has 3 different settings for ride and cant.
