Anyone that is looking for a quiet 22 ammo for pest control, tree rats or for shooting at a home range where you still do want to shake up the nieghbors check out CCI's newest .22lr ammo. CCI .22lr QUIET. It will cycle in my wifes 10/22 just fine and fires a 40gr bullet at 710fps. 704fps out of her 16" clark barrel rifle. NO muffs needed as it is a 64db ammo when fired. Will check for how accurate it is in a day or 2 when weather gets better. Retail price is 27 bucks for 500 rounds at midway and my LGS got me 500 for 28.75 out the door.

Thanks for the heads up. Let us know how it shoots, definately want to check that out.

Tests over on Rimfire Central seem to indicate it is more accurate than the CBs due to it's 40 grain bullet having not to jump as far to reach the rifling in normal long rifle chambers. It is also slightly louder and packs a little more punch than the CBs due to the 40 grain bullet.

I bought a brick and am happy with it so far. I have not done any formal bench work with the Quiets yet, but my informal work on paper targets seems to indicate more accuracy than the CBs. I am especially impressed with their accuracy on paper from my revolvers. Realize, of course, than shooting either the CBs or the Quiets through handguns requires hearing protection. They both sound like air rifles through long guns.

No one I have read about (except the above poster) has had any luck getting them to cycle through an unaltered semi-auto. The alterations required to get them to function well in a semi are quite extensive. This makes perfect sense due to their low power. For an interesting read and some real world results go to this site and begin reading on about page 8 or 9.

Ok , I went out and fired a couple of the new Queit rounds followed by a cb long in the 16" barrel. The cb did not cycle the rifle but i new that before hand. My wife said she could hear a bit of a difference in sound with the cb long and with no action cycleing sound, that might be the difference in noise level. That is from from 50 feet to the side of me. We used the cci cb long in a 511 rem with a 25" barrel for critter control at our last house and it was very quiet for sure, mainly a fireing pin drop was what was heard. But that does not make a far compairison in that long barrel till I get my old rifle back from my kid to try the new ammo in. Velocity was very low do to drag in that long barrel at only 610fps with the cb long. I also fired a couple rounds of the QUIET in my 20" kidd barreled ruger and to me it was about the same . But to my wife 50 feet away she said it sounded very different from her 16" barrel, just less noise. When I can get in the field behind out house I will have a better idea of true noise level from 25yards off. No DB meter so hard to real say but seems the longer 20" barrel does make difference in the sound level.

Knowing how 22 ammo is, each of us will just have to try to see how well it shoots in our firearms . We all know how ammo and .22s can be when accuracy is wanted. Should work for small game anyhow. I sure hope it is wolf/sk accurate at 25 yards. It would be nice to have a cheap, quiet 25yard ammo that can also shot 1/4" groups. HA

bhk Interesting on others haveing cycleing issues allready. To many pages for me to work thru, just found it today. I order it after reading CCI saying it will cycle in semi-autos. Atleast I know it does in my 2 rugers. I do have a son-in-law that has a marlin 795. I will have him stop by to try it and see how that goes. Glad to here others like the accuracy of it.

Where did you find CCI saying it will cycle in autos? Their website says:

"Set your 22-caliber LR rifle to stealth mode with the new CCI® Quiet-22™ rimfire round. Ideal for bolt-action and single shot .22 LR rifles (and perfectly safe in semi-automatics)..."

It says it is safe in semi-autos, not that it will function in them. I am really amazed it cycles in your wife's 10/22. That is extremely rare and you might consider yourself lucky if it does, but that would make me worry about the pounding that rifle is taking with regular long rifles. Is it an older one with a possibly weakened recoil spring? It won't come close to cycling either of my 10/22s, one of which was made in the late 60's and has its original springs.

One guy on Rimfire Central has been shortening the recoil spring, lightening the bolt, shortening the hammer spring, and still having a tough time getting the gun to work with Quiets. I also seem to remember now that one guy did mention they cycled a quite old Remington auto. So there may be rare exceptions out there (and you must have a couple of them).

I would like to hear of others with similar luck. Maybe it is not as rare as I have been reading.

Yaa i see that now. Safe ,ha, Guess i got lucky, maybe. Still have to run more than i have shot down range. May be my wifes will run steady with this ammo atleast. Will try a in-laws 795 marlin in the morning and then try to shoot a couple 25 yard groups for accuracy. I have my old savage fv-sr comeing over too.

This is a nice little development in the world of rimfires. I'm going to have to try out the new CCI round in my T/C Contender pistol with 14" barrel. good3.gif

Playing with reduced load/reduced velocity .22's is always "interesting." The .22 Super Colibri has been largely unsatisfactory. The .22 CB isn't bad -- windage is pretty much dead-on, but drops like 3" at 5 yards (sighted in at 25 yards).

I'll look forward to what the "Quiet" might bring to the table...

.

Anyone tried this ammo in the long barreled CZ rifles? I am curious whether the bullets consistantly exit the muzzle, and what are the average muzzle velocity from the 28+ inch barrels.

Ok guys , Will not even get close clearing the brass in a marlin 795 when fired. I shot a couple 5 shoot groups at 25 yards thru a savage fv-sr and my wifes clark barreld 10/22 both very accurate rifles and the groups with the Queit ammo was 5/8" to 3/4". Not good enough to play with. Gave my ammo to my kids. done
