I have some of both and it seems that the CB and the quiet both claim a velocity of 710 fps. This is from a rifle barrel I would guess.
I like the CBs because they are great pest control rounds and very quiet from a bolt action. Less noise than my spring air pellet gun. I am curious if anyone has chronoed these rounds. CBs seem to be unavailable so I guess the quiet is the new version?

Thanks

Ive got some cb shorts, and the quiets. Its a little late for me tk be shooting by the house but ill chrono them tomorrow....i know my air rifle will deliver more velocity then the cb shorts, even with 20grain pellets.

Nope. Completely different rounds. CB Longs are a 29 grain round nose lead bullet in a .22 Long case @ an advertised 710 fps, while the Quiet load is a 40 grain round nose lead bullet in a full length .22 Long Rifle case. I think the CB load which you state you have are the same load as the CB Long, except for the case.

Have not chrono'ed either. Over the years I've used tons of CB longs from a bolt gun in the back yard. They will not feed obviously from a magazine fed gun due to the reduced case size. I still have a few 100 boxes but since I discovered the new Quiet 22 LR its what I use now for "special purpose".

I don't care for the CB's long or short(29gr at 710 fps) as the windage is to different form 22lr. The CCI 22 Quiet 40gr at 710 FPS just shoots low, I like it. And it has more thump, 32 ft-lbs vs 45 ft-lbs and they are more consistent in my bolt action.

I have some CB longs, shorts and a few others, maybe "quiet", "soft" .22 rounds. From what barrel length are you wanting velocities for?

To Tree Rat--- Take another look at the case lengths of the CB Long and the as you call it, the full sized Long Rifle case. They should be the same length. The only difference is the length of the bullets, 29 grain and 40 grain. All of the low, standard, and high velocity cartridges have the same case length as the long. The only longer long rifle cases are the Hyper velocity loadings like the CCI Stinger.

The Long loading followed the development of the short in the late 1800"s. The long rifle was developed later from the same sized case as the Long, but with a heavier 40 grain/ longer bullet. Then the Extra long was developed with the same diameter as the .22 case with a longer case to allow more black powder to be used to get more velocity out of the same 40 grain bullet. Just saying.

The .22 extra long came after the .22 long.
Then the 40gr extra long bullet was matched with the .22 long case to make the .22 long rifle.
The .22 long rifle performed about as well in the field as the .22 extra long and .22 long rifle could be adapted to existing .22 long firearms designs. Kinda pushed the .22 extra long out of the market.

Ill do some.chrono graph work tomorrow and post the results, i dont havt any cb longs but i got a pretty decent mix of other "low noise" stuff.

And one of the reasons i love this forum, the random historical information you can pick up is EXCELLENT!

Still working on the last lot of 5000 I bought a while ago. From a long rifle barrel they are as quiet as a spring-piston air rifle. From a shorter barrel definitely louder, maybe recognizable a gunfire. From handguns, plain loud. Won't cycle semiautos, but easy to feed by hand cycling. Too short to reliably feed in many bolt actions, but it works with a little practice. Very effective pest/small game round at proper ranges. Not to be trifled with; know your backstop. I have a squirrel problem and very occasionally will use CB longs on a squirrel flat against a tree trunk but never shooting upward. They will exit a squirrel. For relaxing backyard shooting with a good backstop they are great. In close quarters for pests, my spring piston air rifle is safer.

Somewhat off topic but for your enjoyment try a 223 case that has been sized in a FL die without the expander, fit it with a primer, & hand seat a .22 pellet. They are a bunch of fun. In my bolt rifle the shoot straight with my daily loads & you can learn to compensate for them without adjusting your scope. They are dead quiet & should be effective on small varmints. I've only used them on some pesky paper.

ETA:I usually use steel cases & wolf small rifle primers for these.

I've used small rifle magnum primers in a .22Hornet case. They were better from a 7.5" T/C Contender barrel. Drag and limited gas expansion causes rifles to shoot a bit slower.
Last CCI CB's I chrono'd went 750fps from 2" S&W Mod34. Not to trifled with INDEED. Same speed as a 158gr SWC from a .38Spl.

I like the CCI Quiet ammo a lot. A friend of mine has a problem with woodchucks and raccoons in her back yard (a really deep, well brushed back yard). From my Anschutz 141, my Contender Carbine, and my Smith 63, head shots have been surprisingly devastating. I think the segmented three piece bullet is part of the reason. The rifles I use from the garage window, the Smith for the few times she catches one in her live trap. Last time, a few days ago, she was raking leaves fifty yards away and later said she thought I was going to shoot one, not having heard the shot. Nice not having to take the muffs along. I've shot a few with CB Longs but was not nearly as impressed.

I am a fan of CCI CB shorts. For years I used them in a Rem 550-1 with sliding sleeve chamber semi auto or Remington 572 fieldmaster pump.
Now I use a Winchester 61 pump. I have been getting raccoons, squirrels, rats, and crows.

I shoot the CCI CB shorts from a Marlin 81. They cycle dependably and are deadly on the normal assortment of "near the house" pests. They make less noise than a screen door slamming shut. I used Aquila 60gr. sub sonic in the past, but they were not accurate enough past 20 feet or so, from my rifle. I still use them in my revolver when checking traps.

Made 5 rounds after a run to walmart for the pellets. quite surprised at the accuracy with a MP 15 sport2 at about 10 yards. Had just put a Bushnell TRS 25 red dot on it.

That poor tree. I don't think those were effective kill shots. It'll be living with those injuries for a while & dying a slow death.

I didn't realize you could prime Berdan cases with Boxer primers.
As far as I know you can't. I've never tried to load any Berdan primed but if memory serves me correct the Berdan are slightly bigger then Boxer.
