I've never shot this relatively expensive CCI 22lr ammunition and was wondering if those of you with experience with it can tell me if it's worth the difference in price. More importantly, does it cycle better or worse than "standard" CCI 22lr ammo?

Thanks in advance!

CCI green tag is not worth the money. Not saying premium 22 ammo isn't worth it, just that CCI green tag isn't all that great. What are you trying to do (what gun is this for)?

I wasn't really trying to do anything in particular. I was just in Academy Sports and I saw this stuff for the first time and had to google it to see why it was so expensive. I'd actually never seen the stuff before.

Their Standard Velocity .22LR shoots just as well as the Green Tag. I've been shooting the CCI Standard Velocity for some time now and have always had more than acceptable results from both rifles and pistols.

In the world of match grade ammo Green Tag isn't all that. If you want sticker shock, check out the price of Lapua X-Act (about $26.00 a box for 50).

In my experience Green Tag is as good as any of the match ammo out of a rifle at least. 80% of the pistol shooters are not good enough to tell the difference in their targets with match ammo but match ammo is generally more reliable with fewer miss fires so you don't have to shoot as many ammo related alibi's if you use it.

Once I tested several types of ammo from my Ruger 10-22 with bull barrel to see if "match" ammo was any better than the cheaper ammo. The test was using the rifle with 4x scope and shooting at a 50' target at 25 yds off a benched rest. There was significantly smaller groups from the Green Tag and Wolf match target ammo than the bulk box ammo. I'm talking a Quarter size 10 round group from the cheap ammo while the Green Tag, and Wolf match put all 10 in a small ragged hole that could be completely covered by a dime. Winchester Dynapoint was good but not as tight as the match grade ammo. CCI mini mags and Winchester T22 standard velocity was kind of in between the Federal and Remington Bulk ammo and the Green Tag.

Buy a box and try it out. Its not like you have to invest in a brick or case. Probably will not see much difference with handgun unless you have a master rating.

Smith and Wesson says their Model 41s are tested with Green Tags, and my 41s do indeed function perfectly and group tightly.

One of my 41s didn't shoot nearly all other .22 ammo brands very reliably, however. I have since found some other ammo that works flawless and also groups very nicely as well. Eley Match and Eley Tenex (way more expensive than the Green Tag) and Federal Champion Target from Dicks (which lately has been nigh impossible to get for over a year). So naturally I bought ~30,000 rounds of the Champion Target over the last three years. ($13.99 to now $29.99 a brick to Impossible to find!)

I am down to about 5,000 rounds and will need to look for other ammo soon.

I appreciate the replies. I can tell the difference in ammo (generally) using a rest at > 75 feet. I'm a huge fan of long range pellet pigeon shooting. If it weren't for a nice natural tremor, I could be pretty good with some of my pistols/revolvers.

I may have to buy a box and check it out. They looked really nicely made.
