CCW in Florida?

I want to get CCW in Florida, how much does the license cost and what do I have to do?

Its administered by the Department of Agriculture.

You have to show "acceptable" training. The application has a list of things they will take, there is no specific class like in some states.

It's around $120 for Florida residents.

Max ,about $50.00 I've heard.If you have an NRA training cert,DD 214,etc.,you're exempt.

The $120 is the state fee for the permit. Training is not included.

As I posted, there is no specific training course required so you are on your own there. You might have to pay for it, you might not.

If you were honorably discharged from the military that alone is enough. If you have another state's permit that will work.

From the application:

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING DOCUMENTATION
1. A photocopy of a certificate of completion of any of the courses or classes listed below. Do not send your original cer-
tificate because it cannot be returned.
2. A copy of any document which shows completion of the course or class or evidences participation in firearms compe-
tition;
3. An affidavit from the instructor, school, club, organization, or group that conducted or taught the course or class attest-
ing to the completion of the course or class by the applicant below. Be sure to submit the original (notarized) affidavit
but make a copy for your records because it cannot be returned.
• Completion of any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission or a similar agency of another state;
• Completion of any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course;
• Completion of any firearms safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by a law en-
forcement, junior college, college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school, utiliz-
ing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association, Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission,
or the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services;
• Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investi-
gators, special deputies, or any division or subdivision of law enforcement or security enforcement;
• Presents evidence of equivalent experience with a firearm through participation in organized shooting competition
or military service (persons serving in the United States Armed Forces may submit a copy of their Military ID Card;
discharged persons may submit a copy of the DD-214);
• Is licensed or has been licensed to carry a firearm in this state or a county or municipality of this state, unless such
license has been revoked for cause;
• Completion of any firearms training or safety course or class conducted by a state-certified or National Rifle
Association-certified firearms instructor.

The first step to CCW is being responsible. Responsibilty begins with you.

Google "FL Gun laws". It is really easy.

Also in order to save a long wait, after you take your safety course go to the local sheriff station and do the electronic fingerprinting. It costs around 45.00 and that is deducted from the 120 you send to the state. This can mean the difference between a 2 week wait and a 2 month wait for your permit to come from the state.

Guns are by design, tools to hurl projectiles rapidly for either sport, hunting, self-defense, or war. Carrying a gun involves carrying a handgun specifically for the purpose of self-defense, likely using high-tech ammunition designed for use on animals or people and high-tech firearms designed for maximum firepower. CCW involves adding the factor of concealability.

So, naturally, the agency which regulates the involvement of people with the above, is the Department of Agriculture.

I still find it hilarious.

I just recently got my CCW in FL.
I Paid
65.00 for the class (a lot of fun too)
75.00 fee to Dept of AG
5.00 to the sheriff for electronic fingerprinting, was instructed to visit a website to complete the electronic fingerprint submission and subsequently charged
34.25 during that online session.
Then waited 2.5 months for the permit to arrive.

so depending on the cost of your class...
+/- $ 180.00 to git er done

You can get crappier classes cheaper, but I do not recommend that option.
Pay for experience... no shortcuts...no airsoft

Not sure when it went into effect, but I believe the license is now good for 7 years vice 5.

Also, at the current time, you're only required to be fingerprinted for the initial license, not when you renew.

I believe that if you're not listing a Florida address that you've gotta submit prints on renewal.

IIRC when I applied about a year ago, Florida would only accept electronic finger prints from law enforcement agencies in Florida. A hard copy finger print card was required for submissions from other states. I don't know if this has changed.

Also, the fingerprints must be taken by a law enforcement agency. At least that was required when I applied.

As for the CCW in FL.. Does anyone know where to find a list of firearms safety courses, and where to take them, in Florida?? I looked in the phone book and came up empty..
