CCW question- Can you get in trouble by letting your mags show?

In TX, I don't think so, but it was never addressed in either my initial or my recurrent CHL class....and they were very thorough on reviewing the legal requirements.

Can you contact your CHL instructor? Mine gave his phone number and email address to the class and invited any future questions or concerns.

bad news in CT.
even having a round mixed in with your change at the register
can get you in trouble

Sort of defeats the purpose of concealment, doesn't it?
Legally, it would vary by state, locality, and officer mood ... practically, if your mags are so blatantly obvious that it is likely that a casual observer could ID them, you are at least in for hassle. Luckily most people aren't paying attention to much beyond reality TV and their mobile phone.

Just conceal the reload, but don't stress out over a moment of visibility.

Legality may be one thing, but if someone was to wave a magazine in front of me, I'd think "this guy's packing"....not "gee this guy has only a teensy part of the firearm....".

Same goes for if I see a belt-mounted magazine holder. It would defeat the entire idea of CC, so I do see how a state that's a stickler on the concealed part of CC (like FL), might have beef with flashing accessories as well.

Shirts/caps/belt buckles....not so much....those would say "I'm an owner", not necessarily "Hello folks, I'm armed!".

This is my understanding too. Legal, but maybe not a great idea.

IMO CT, NJ & California leave a lot to be desired when it comes to leadership, starting with Dodd. I lived in Middletown, Berlin and Newington Ct for many years. I PMS and moved back to Florida when the fat lady got elected governor.

WRONG. Your FIREARM is not being exposed. I'm in Naugatuck if you're wondering.

Isn't Connecticut an open carry state?

Technically, yes it is because there is NOTHING in the laws that prohibit open carry. The permit says "State Permit to Carry Pistols and Revolvers". There is NO mention about being concealed OR open carry.

But... The "scary" thing is if your firearm becomes visible and "causes alarm" to another, you can be arrested for breach peace and you WILL lose that firearm AND your permit. You'll probably get off from charges after lots of time, money and aggravation, but good luck with the permit being reinstated. The backlog for permit appeals is YEARS. And, this HAS actually happened to people. Gotta love freakin' Connecticut, eh?
