Just as I was turning onto hwy 190w from 35n after a trip down to Cabela's in Buda (oh yeah!), I almost missed a big orange sign off the side of the road.

pause: now you are wondering how I missed it. it was dark (the sky, not the big orange sign)

Sign read: gun Show July 9-10 (Maybourn????) Center???

And that's my problem. WHERE IS IT???

After an internet search, I did find a Gun show on July9-10 in Temple supposedly at this center- the exact name of which i am still unsure.

Is there a maybourn center in Temple? I know the name of the location started with the letter 'M' but that's as far as I got.

So i am pretty sure I sleuthed my info correctly, but is anyone more familiar with the actual info?

Anyone know the details?
Directions to the place?

Thanks,
C-

The show at the mayborn center is smaller than the Austin show or the Rodeo show in Mesquite. Ammo is not allowed in the show, is usually sold outside in the parking lot (usually one vendor). Parking is good. I've never purchased anything there, mostly just looked.

hmmm

might be worth a look if I finish up my engagement in time.
How do you get to the Mayborn Ctr from Scott&White Hospital, which is 2401 S.31st st?

You're probably better off waiting for the show that usually comes to the Bell County Expo Center but I don't know...never been to the one at the Mayborn Center. However, this is the same company that puts on the show in Waco periodically and that show stinks. A few gun tables and LOTS of tables with few to no guns and tons of other crap.

The parking lot ammo thing is due to a Bell County regulation. I was not that impressed with the one guy that was selling ammo at the Waco RK show. His selection was decent but neither his prices nor his selection were as good as the ammo man that comes to the Bell County Expo show. Now that guy has some good deals.

If you DO decide to go to this show you can get a 1 dollar off entry fee coupon from their website.

It's right on the East side of I-35 way up in North Temple but I can't remember the exit...maybe Industrial. You can see it right there on the right from the freeway.

I think the Mayborn center is on 3303 north third street in temple.

If you're not familiar with Temple and you're going to be at Scott&White Hospital anyway, then head out to I-35, make a right turn to head north on I-35. I think mapquest may have it as exit 303b. As DigMe pointed out, you should see the Frank Mayborn Convention sign from the freeway. Like the others have said, it is a small gunshow. I think (but am not sure) the show is the same as the one they put on at bell county expo (at least I see the same guys there).

thanks

When is the next Bell cty Expo ctr show?
Last time i was there, I signed up to be on the email list nad haven't heard a word since.

don't know when the next bell county show is going to be. Depending on where you live, there's the Rodeo (Mesquite) show this weekend (I think) or maybe the bigger show at the Mesquite Big Town center in August.

No I'm pretty sure it's different people and the Bell County show (At least the two that I've been too) has more dealers (I think) and better selection.

When is the next Bell cty Expo ctr show?

I don't know but they usually have one at the beginning of fall right before deer season and then one in the winter at the end of January or maybe Feb.

Two years ago the February one was awesome, lots of tables especially for that area. Last year though there was maybe only 2/3 the number of tables as the year before because a lot of dealers supposedly went to a big show in Houston. I've never been to the one in the fall.

The Belton show at the Bell Co. Expo Center is two times a year i believe. the promoter is "The Real Gun Show."

i did the last two shows there. you're correct, last show did compete with Houston Reliant Center. but i didn't think too many Belton/Waco folks were going to make the drive to Houston, especially with the cost of gas and time to/from (3 to 3 1/2 hr drive one-way).

from a dealer standpoint i like the Belton show because it is an easy load in/load out. but the air conditioning in the building is non-existent!

Steve,

I saw you there but I didn't realize that you were a THR guy until afterwards.

I'm hoping I can make the one in the fall this year and that it will be back up to full-size.

Looking at your join date it was not long after that show. Your table was one of the most memorable though and I remember you talking about it. :D

ok

Spreadfirearms,
I just checked your website. I am for sure checking out your table next time I see it.
Do you guide people thru the paperwork for Class III sales? that's a big thing!
When is the next central TX area show you're doing?

As for this weekends show, looks like I just get back on 35 and take exit 303B, ten minutes away. Easy enough.

One of these days, we should all arrange to meet at least just to say hi at one of these shows. Maybe at some agreeable time at the spreadfirearms table? Usually, I am babysitting my kid(s) at the shows- a condition of my permission to go- so I can't say we'd be able to hang around for alot of time. But who wants to waste time talking when there are guns to be gawked at?

the next Central TX show will be in Austin next weekend (July 16-17) at the new Crockett Center at 10601 N. Lamar Blvd, between Rundberg and Braker Ln.

just look for the M249SAW......ill be there! come by and say hi. :)

and yes i guide people through NFA paperwork, it can be very confusing!

durndit

Figures I am on call that weekend. Have to be within 20 min of work, which is about 90 minutes from Austin. Man!

OK, so when is the next one after that you'll be at in the central tx area?

I didn't even know that they had opened up yet! That's great - I think that I may combine the Austin show with a visit to Cabela's. It seems that She Who Must Be Obeyed is leaving for a couple of weeks on the 15th, so I have no one to give me a hundred reasons why I can't go. Of course, if I go then it'll cut into my shooting time...choices, choices.

BTW, where is the Crockett Convention Center? I'm a SA resident, and I've never had reason to go to Crockett.

What do ya'all think of the Crockett Center. I went on the opening weekend when they moved down there. A little more inside gunshow space, but the parking was bad. They had to share it with the indoor flea market thing, and between the two, spent 10-15 minutes looking for a parking space. Has it gotten any better?
