I was just complaining on another forum about a lack of training options in the pacific northwest.
Couple questions for you:
- Gear list didn't specify holster. Are AIWBs cool to run provided the student does it safely?
- Do you have any 360 degree bays or a shoot house? any plans to add that to your curriculum?
-Whats the maximum distance you can shoot at your facilities?
-For private lessons, would you be able to work on PRS style positional rifle shooting with improvised rests/barricades/props? What about room clearing/moving through structures with the use of props if a shoot house is not available.
Thanks
I hear a lot of the "Train as you fight" garb...it tends to aim towards gear, and not much to training. I try to get people to think outside of the tiny box that a lot of ranges and schools put their students in. When I run my drills, at first I want the student to follow directions as given. As the day goes on, I watch and see how things are progressing. If all is going well, I will let the student dictate when they reload, when they re-holster, and not get stuck in two or three shot drills. Let them decide how many they feel needs to get the job done. Train them past the drill. If the drill is 2 shots, have them think 3-4-5+. Stop the "take the shot and pull back and look" garbage. Stop the useless scan that goes back and forth about 1-2 feet after the drill is over. So to answer your questions;
1 - I do not specify gear. Nor will we throw out opinions on what people bring unless a few things come up;
1 - The gear tends to be unsafe
2 - The gear hinders the shooter in being efficient
3 - We are asked our opinion
2 - We can shoot about 270 deg. Shoot house using simunitions is on the horizon.
3 - Max distance is 200 yards
4 - We do private training (see website) on positional rifle and pistol shooting, as well as room clearing etc. Although, I will not teach people these kinds of things unless I believe they are ready for it. Meaning, can they run their chosen weapon to the point where they can focus on what's around them, instead of what's on their hands. It's useless to instruct folks if they can't can't run their chosen weapon efficiently, it's counter productive. So we go through some of my basic drills to see what level the shooter is.
Once anyone trains with us, they have access to the range free of charge anytime they are in the Goldendale area...provided I'm around to attend...insurance requirements ya know. I am very student driven. Any of my students can contact me anytime...email, text, or call to discuss shooting issues, past class curriculum etc., again no charge.
Hope this helps you out. Feel free to call and discuss anything with me. if I don't answer, leave a message and I'll get back to you the same day.
