I am sure many of you here are aware of what happended to a couple of Ceres Officers about three weeks ago. One was shot and killed and one was seriously injured by a gangbanger parading around as a Marine (Who happened to be UA).

I have been talking to a Commander Weber who put me in contact with Sgt. Smith, the individual in charge of the Firearms Unit. They are no issuing AR type rifles to their officers that qualify with them.

There is now supposedly a "Cease Fire" between the gangs in order to allow them to attack law enforcement. From what I understand this is localized in the central valley of CA, but who knows where it will spread.

Now for the request of this post;

I am trying to make sure that every rifle issued to the officers of Ceres Police Dept. are scoped. Right now Sgt Smith is going to T and E a Leopuld CQ/T and an EoTech Holosight, the Aimpoint ML2 just isn't available. Once they make a decision I am going to try my hardest to make sure they all get one. When I told my wife about this idea she got VERY angry when we started talking cost. So I am now requesting donations for this worthy cause. Sgt Smith is going to set up an account, or whatever they do, to make this all a tax deductable donation.

If anyone is interested please contact me and I will either put you in contact with Sgt Smith or tell you how and where to donate. Thank you for your time reading this and I will add more as it becomes available.

ps - I posted this on glocktalk too, so I apologize to those of you that have read it twice.

Any other ideas on scopes they should T and E? Sgt Smith recently mounted a Reflex Sight, acog I think. Says he likes it...

A collection for LEO AR optics?

Don't they have a budget paid for by the taxpayers?

Why do these guys need scopes again? Gangbangers at 300 yards?

The department has a budget for the rifles, and even that is stretching the budget thin. There is no budget for optics. Officers can opt to purchase their own optics, as Sgt Smith has done, but many can't afford it. The agreement that I have with the department is that the scopes I am able to donate to them will become property of the department, in other words; the scopes will be permanently mated to a rifle... as long as they both hold out.

Why do they need optics? An interesting question to say the least. Scopes will allow the officers to have a better idea of where the rounds they unleash will go. With that the public will be, or at least should be, safer. Less rounds bouncing down the street. I wouldn't suggest shooting bangers at 300 yards with a zero magnification scope. For the most part we are talking about 75 yard max shots.

Whens the last time LE did anything for me? Oh yeah, never. Did these guys fight the AWB there? Did they fight any of the stupid laws I've got to sift through to figure out how I can teach my boyfriend in the republic of Kalifornistan?

PMDW is not paying for optics for police officers in California. They can raise taxes if they want them that bad. I'm not running a chairity here.

The open hostility!

"Did they fight any of the stupid laws I've got to sift through to figure out how I can teach my boyfriend in the republic of Kalifornistan?"

I'm not even sure what the question is. Yes, many of these officers did fight the "stupid laws." This is a small town here in CA. One of the few that authorizes the 1911 by the way.

Now to the second part of that question...

What laws do you have to sift through to figure out how to teach your boyfriend? I didn't know there were laws that restricted HOW you can teach someone. You say you are in St. Louis, is your boyfriend here in CA? If you are having problems teaching your boyfriend from St Louis to CA, I'm not sure you can be helped.

Hmm. Lots of things unclear here...

You say
I wouldn't suggest shooting bangers at 300 yards with a zero magnification scope.

But you are asking about a Leupold CQT, which is most certainly a 3x magnification scope. So, you don't even know the equipment you are asking about.

Most importantly, I'm afraid, is that you signed up here on THR solely to post this. Your post count is pretty much all accounted for here in this one thread.

I could somewhat understand a "fellow high-roader" asking for help, and I might even consider it, but this is just blind solicitation, with no real explanation of who you are and why you are asking.

I sincerely wish the officers good luck in this, and hope that the CA legislators can provide additional funding if this is indeed about to erupt into a street war.

I am familiar with the CQ/T, I personally like this one because of the availability of options. I also think the fact that it has a sight picture even if the batteries are dead is a good thing. I also like the fact that it is powered by AA bateries is a plus. The batteries can be replaced with a quick trip to a 7-11 by an officer in need. Besides all of that it is one of the ones picked as a Test and Evaluation. In other words, it is being considered.

As far as being a blind solicitation, almost but not quite. My first post was back in Aug of last year. I am more of a lurker than a poster.

Again, I thank you for the time you took to read and consider this post.

[voice=SimonCowel]I vote no.[/voice]

I watched the video sveral times.
It both saddens and sickens me to watch it.
I studied the stills.
I also spent 11 years carrying a badge.
What happened there is a damn shame.

BUT...

A scope would have done the officers in the video absolutely NO good.
Scopes are for the SWAT guys.

You'll NEVER hear a gangbanger say, "We's best be steppin' cause they got SCOPES!"

I think you'd have an easier time raising money for something they really NEED.

Such as a weapon mounted light or laser.

A laser or a white light would be much more practical against face to face encounters with gangbangers.
A light can assist the officer in clearing an area.
A laser is faster for target aquisition.
A white light or a laser MIGHT even resolve the situation without having to fire a shot.

A scope will NOT.

Plus lights are a lot cheaper.
And based on the video, they sure could use some extra training.

;) Hey two words for ya "asset forfeiture"
I hear that there's a lot of money in that game
and lots of them Guvmint leo types are pretty good at it.
Couple good "seizures" should buy lots of scopes for ya ;)

I have to agree with BluesBear, a scoped rifle would not
have made any difference, training probably would have.

Let's hope that our "justice" system gives this cop killer
what he deserves, death, slow and painfull.

I'm sorry, folks. This may be a totally legitimate request for assistance, but we have no way of knowing that. If the PD wants to get in touch with THR officially, in a way that can be verified, and ask for the assistance of our members, that's fine with me, and (I'm sure) with all of us. However, in the absence of such official contact, there is always the potential for misuse: and therefore I can't leave this thread open.

If anyone wants to know more about this situation, or support this idea, I suggest contacting the Ceres PD officially to determine what's going on.
