CH dies vs Lyman?

Just received a box of vintage 303 British dies, and I noticed that the dies were marked "CH", rather than Lyman, even though they arrived in a Lyman box, and we're advertised as Lyman. Did CH ever make dies for Lyman, or is this just a case of box substitution?

Doesn't matter to me either way, just curious if I'm missing a possible back story.

Would Lyman have their All American dies stamped "CH"?

I have several sets of CH dies. The company is now known as CH4D and still in buisness. The cardboard boxes mine came in fell apart years ago. They currently reside in Lee boxes cause those were available and cheap at the time. Yours look like my Lyman american dies that came in the old black 2 piece box. They might have been made by CH for Lyman at that time.

I do have a set of CH4D dies myself, which is probably why I recognized the logo on this older set.

Everything else I own from Lyman is nicely rebranded. But yeah, it is easy to recognize the original source of their products, like the ultrasound cleaner and brass dryer.

Does someone have a set of Lyman All-American dies from the black paper box era that is stamped CH?

If you have a set of Lyman A-A, and they are not stamped CH, how are they stamped?

Ray, I asked about this and the answer is no, we never had CH make does for us. The seller probably just used the box.

Thank you!

I had asked at CH4D, but so far silence.

I assume you bought those used, or they wouldn't be in a Lyman box. All my C&H4D die sets are in black plastic C&H4D boxes. I do have some old sets in cardboard boxes and boxes are still great. I also own lots of Lyman and RCBS dies and all three companies make good products. But C&H does more obsolete cartridge die sets at much lower prices than other die makers do.

Box Substitution ... CH nor CH4D has ever made dies for Lyman .
Two completely separate dies .
Easy to tell CH from Lyman All American !
The Lyman A-A dies are chromed plated ... I like that feature .
CH Dies have no chrome plating on them ... just steel finish .
CH dies were usually a little cheaper than Lyman A-A ...
but they were excellent dies .

Yes, this was a purchase of a used item online. For the occasional random project, I'm quite happy with used dies. They almost always clean up well and throw good quality brass. And when I'm done I can usually turn them over for cost.

CH4D definitely was the best option for a new set of 7.63 Mannlicher dies. Even Gun Guru Ian had trouble finding ammo for his 1905 Mannlicher vlog

I also have no problem with used die sets, and even buy used die sets for cartridges I don't own if they're cheap! At our December '24 collector gun show a guy had a set of RCBS .22 Remington Jet dies on his table for $10 and I quickly bought them. I owned a S&W in .22 Rem Jet decades ago, and those are tough dies to find. So I figured even without a gun in this cartridge I'd add them to my collection of dies just in case.
