For those manufactured in the Philadelphia (Wayne Junction) plant, circa 1910 to 1940, was there a standard chamber depth in 12, 16, and 20 gauge?

AH Fox intentionally short chambered their shotguns, up until 1938. 20 gauge shotguns had 2 3/8" chambers, intended for 2 1/2" shells, 16 gauge shotguns had 2 7/16 chambers, intended for 2 9/16 shells, and AH Fox 12 gauge shotguns had 2 5/8" chambers intended for 2 3/4" shells. This was thought to better seal gas pressure and give higher velocities. This is all assuming the gun hasn't had its chambers lengthened in its 83 to 111 year service life. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with shooting 12 ga 2 3/4" shells in an AH fox 12 gauge with 2 5/8" chambers, however I would NOT shoot a 2 3/4" shell out of a 2 3/8" 20 gauge chamber.

Okay, so 2 3/4” shells are acceptable in ALL 12 ga Fox shotguns, including the Model 1911 with the recessed hinge pin?

Providing the firearm was in a good, serviceable condition, and the loads I was using are appropriate for the firearm, I would not be adverse to using 2 3/4" shells. The standard 12 gauge load circa 1910 was 1 1/8 ounces of shot at 1200 FPS, with a maximum pressure of 10,000 PSI. My 1913 AH Fox catalogue states that the 12 gauge shotguns were "For 2 3/4" shells"

Any idea where to find 2 1/2” 20 ga shells?

Or, 2 9/16” 16 ga shells, for that matter?
