Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

    NRA email alert

I received an NRA email alert. It seems as though the Obama people took out the page the moment the NRA alerted it's members of the link.

    Here is another quote:

Barack Obama has seen the impact of fully automatic weapons in the hands of criminals. Thus, Senator Obama supports making permanent the expired federal Assault Weapon Ban. These weapons, such as AK-47s, belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

Yes, he wants an AWB. That's no secret. Let's all stop pointing out the obvious and start taking steps to prevent or mitigate it.

I'm not so sure he will actively push for another. He talks about childproofing firearms as well, I really don't think he will actively push for any of this stuff. Congress on the other hand is a different story, as long as there is no major mass shooting, we might be ok.

Don't you remember that everytime a new restriction was proposed by the Clinton administration, a mass shooting just happened to occur.

Hasn't there been some sort of mass shooting every year for a decade or so?

Somehow, the bulk of the mass shooting didn't START until AFTER gun bans. Somehow the gun ban idiots don't understand why. Keep :banghead: hoping for a different outcome. :barf:

That's interesting that it's been removed from the change.gov website. I remember seeing the statement on the site just this past friday.

    Now this is interesting.

As of right now, all references to the words

    Gun
    Weapon
    Assault
    Firearm

have been removed from the site or are not part of firearms control

I've said it repeatedly, it's not a priority. Not worth the fight.

Someone probably reminded our new "dear leader" that the original AWB lost them control of the congress the last time around. ;)

Reason, hopefully, will trump rhetoric this time.

That said, I'm still renewing my NRA membership as well as rejoining my state 2nd amendment rights organization.

At this point, all we can do is be vigilant and stay involved. My representatives are already receiving letters from me reminding them of the fallout of the first AWB.

I just hope that the change in his web site reflects a change in priorities and not a decision to hide it. Only time will tell at this point.

"WEAPONS FOUND ON FOREIGN BATTLEFIELDS." Wouldn't that include the .32 ACP ( Officers pistol,) .380,.38 Special, 9mm, 9x18, .45, 03 Springfields, Enfields, AR15, AK47, M14, shotguns, and almost EVERY bolt action rifle?

Guess the Kel Tecs are safe ain't they?:neener:

Make permanent the Clinton AWB and close the "gunshow loophole". Those will happen. Those may well not be a huge priority as some say for Obama, but they have been for the Democratic leadership for years. He will sign the laws without refinement. That means NICs checks for all firearm transfers in the future and limiting EBRs.

If Obama really pushes a new AWB, I think he will treat them much like he said about electrical production using coal.... it will be so expensive that it will bankrupt them.

The interesting thing will be if the Obama administration seeks a much larger crime package that addresses many of his personal feelings about firearms, access to firearms, and the use of firearms, law enforcement, and racial profiling. That legislation will cause a much larger fight.

Precisely why it's not worth the fight.

It depend Sinixtar.. lets admit a majority of Obama voters trust him and his decisions for anothe couple of years.. It won't be hard for him to persuade them that a new ban is "something to make them safer" ... and it's da,mn easier to make people believe they are safe because of you by banning a category of gun than fixing 2 wars going on, or by inventing a new health care system..

Here in europe, each time gun laws were tightened, guns were far to be a real problem, and politicians had huge other matters to take care of first... but again, they chose the easiest way to make the naive crowd "safer" ...

Good, if we can keep them scared enough that they won't even put mention of a new AWB on their website, maybe, just maybe, they'll leave it well enough alone.

    To keep this activism related;

    Get the NRA on this!

From their actions last time it was a poor response, if we as a firearm community can get Cooper off the Board of Directors of HIS company in 72 hours then we should be able to get the NRA to prep for this battle, we can win.

It is interesting that the folks at change.gov dropped the policy material from the campaign website and you no longer can find any reference to weapons, guns, firearms, rifles, AWB or assault weapons. Gone. Poof. You can't even find them with a search for any of the terms any more. They were there a couple of days ago just like posted. The links to them others posted above all worked, until just a little while ago.

Does this mean that somehow those policy objectives have changed? Probably not. Does it mean that they've fallen further down the "to do" list? Possibly. Does it mean that they've abandoned these goals? I doubt it. Does it mean that we should drop opposing them from ours? Certainly not.

So how do we remind the upcoming administration that since the ranks of gunowners have swelled in response to their stated policy objective of supporting a permanent AWB that following through on such a bas would be meet with the same backlash that the previous AWB caused?

Their plans have definitely not changed. But it does prove that we have their attention. Now we must push harder, not let up.

There has been SOME kind of mass violence every year or so throughout human history. Those committed with guns are a very small percentage.

Outlawing firearms will not change human behavior.

You ban RKBA and our streets will turn into battlefields.
