Just a quick note to let my Brethern and Sistern in Arms that is have successfully relocated from Northern Virginia to Santa Fe, NM and have changed handles fro "Mike in VA" to "XLMiguel" (Big Mike).
It was a fairly easy and [thankfully] boring 4 day drive across I-40, SWMBO and Jake the Cat traveled well, as did gun collection & ammo (in U_Haul). We have a beautiful view of the Sangre de Cristo mtns out the front door, and I've found two gun shops (Big 5 and Tina's Range Gear) so far, and I've found listings for a couple more. Tina's has an indoor pistol range (< 10 min from the house), and there's plenty of BLM land to explore for shooting opportunities. Life is good.
NM is pretty cool (the Governor has a carry permit), and Santa Fe is really mellow compared to NoVA - people are friendly, traffic is easy, nothing is very far away. SF has a very artsy/cultural ambience, with a lot of 'diversity' (in a pleasant way, so far) but is pretty touristy, and there seem to be a lot of 60's/70's throwbacks (thought the real visitors from other planets are more prevalent up in Taos). WE're enjoying it a lot.
All in all, I'm diggin' it, and will be looking to hook up with some of y'all local shooters in a couple weeks after the house gets sorted out and I can find stuff again.
Cheers, y'all.
