So, let me get this straight. Despite the fact that, on the internet, it's almost common knowledge that Charles Daly 1911s are made in the Philippines (some say in the same factory as the RIA guns)--to the point where the wikipedia article on Armscor mentions Charles Daly--the Charles Daly pistols are not, and in fact never have been, made in the Philippines, but are actually made by Armscorp in South Africa?

Edit: fyi the quote comes from this thread

    'ARMCOR' is in the Philippines.

Charles Daly, Rock Island, High Standard, et al. are made there. The dude from Charles Daly is trying to imply that his weapons are somehow different than same others manufactured there.

It appears to me that "Charles Daly" simply made a couple of typos in the post you quoted. On the bottom of this page on their site, it says the steel 1911s are made by Arms Corporation of the Philippines (Armscor).

It took about five minutes to find that, and that is with a slow connection.

So, it seems that the post I quoted was just a complicated way to say... what? Charles Daly came before RIA?

Eh, I'll just assume typos are the answer.

    Welcome to the forums marshaul.

The poster he addresses stated that: "...their quality in auto pistols suffered early on and in general gave them a bad name. As of late RIA-armscorp has been doing their pistols which is a great improvement."
Mr Kassnar points out that Armscor has been making the Charles Daly pistols all along; that any improvements made were by Armscor not a new manufacturer. He also points out that Rock Island is, as Charles Daly, a partner/importer (albeit, according to him, newer on the scene) of Armscor products.

I feel The Lone Haranguer is spot on about typo errors (the poster I quoted did it as well); I have read other posts where Charles Daly states that their pistols are made in the same place as RIA

Armscor is the manufacturer of our 1911's, not Armscorp. It is indeed a typo and nothing more than that.

Armscor has been building our 1911's for almost 10 years. RIA are made in the same factory, on the same machines as Charles Daly.

Charles Daly pistols are different from RIA in the features department, nothing more.

We are not familiar with all of RIA's finishes. CD's are blued.

Would it be safe to assume that the Charles Daly pistols are of comparable quality to RIA Tacticals and such?

FlyPenFly: As I cannot comment on RIA's finsihes, neither can I comment on RIA's quality, other than to say that they are made in the same factory (Armscor) and on the same equipment as CD. I could "assume" they are of comparable quality, but I've learned the hard way over the years that I should never assume anything.

Flypenfly: We will not have any new 1911 models available for sale in California until late 2008 or early 2009. In order to get new models certified for CA, we need to incorporate both a loaded chamber indicator (easy to do) and a magazine safety disconnect (not so easy in a 1911). We are working on it but it will not be ready for several months. Sorry, but it's the best we can do.

    Hmmm....
My Charles Daly EMS is stainless. A couple of years ago it seemed about the only way to get the Armscor stainless guns was under the Charles Daly label.

I've been very happy with my EMS, had a few issues out of the box -- right side safety lever broke, CD customer service handled it nicely, and 10,000+ rounds later its held up very well. Use the search, I've posted a good bit about it.
