Hello,

I purchased a Charter Arms Bulldog classic with the 3 inch barrel. I have found a good shooting load using 200gr hard cast L-RNFP bullets using Bullseye powder. Recoil is now tamed (along with adding a pachmayr grips.

The issue I'm having is the firearm shooting 5 inches right of target. The CA Bulldog has fixed sights and this is the first firearm I've purchased with fixed sights that doesn't hit at the point of aim. I have a Taurus 905-9mm and a Taurus 85-38+p that both have fixed sights and shoot excellent at 7 yards.

Any recommendations (aside from using Kentucky windage) on how to adjust fixed sights? Does CA help with such issues?

TIA

JLM

Regarding bullet weight, all the different weights (240, 200, 180) I tried placed ~5 inches to the right of target. This leads me to believe that it is an issue with the sights not bullet weight.

I also use 200 grain bullets and love them for the same reasons. It sounds like you need to have a smith look at your sights. Any competent smith can adjust for you .

I have the same gun. It seemed to be regulated for 240 gr. I called and Charter sent me a prepaid label. The gun came back fine for 215 gr. Call Charter.

At 7 yds & 5 inches off ... Sounds like a trip back to the mothership .

Charter is great to deal with .. They will have you lead flying straight , in no time

farm23, Buckeye63,
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to go that route. I'm no Jerry Miculek or Deadshot (Suicide Squad), but I hit the bullseye at 7 yards with all of my firearms-several being revolvers. I'm going to take a photo of the target this evening and email Charter Arms along with a detailed description to see what they say.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. Sent an email to CA and they quickly responded for address information so they could create a Pre-Paid Fed-Ex return Label. Surprised as I'm not used to getting a response so quickly.

I purchased the firearm new.

Did you buy it new or used? Either way, it needs to go back to Charter Arms.[/QUOTE]

I'd send it back. My 2016 model shoots WAY low if I use the stock sights like you should, but I've learned to shoot it differently and I'm ok with it. Shooting way left or right? I'd have to say that personally, I'd sent it back.

Charter Arms are budget guns but they have some of the best customer service in the business. quick turn-around times and they usually get it right the second time.

20190827_213936.jpg Update. So Charter Arms sent me a box with a prepaid FEDEX label. I returned the firearm on the 14th and got it back on the 26th. That was pretty quick turn around. According to the work order they adjusted the front sight. I took it to the range today and the attached pic shows my new shot group using ACME 200gr RNFP bullets and Bullseye powder. Not too bad. I will say that the firearm is light. After about 20 rounds My shots were not as accurate, but that is more than likely me. Overall I am very satisfied with the firearm and will stick with 200gr bullets as the the difference in recoil between bullets was negligible. Again, thanks everyone for the help and Charter Arms for standing by their product.

After a number of years of shooting Bullseye I have determined that my greatest source of inaccuracy is due to my flinch. And as the match goes on, the flinch gets worse. My Bulldog is a light pistol and I can say, yes around 20 rounds, and I am flinching. People need to shoot a 20 ounce 44 Special to appreciate the recoil. It is a lot worse than in an N frame.

I used 240 grain bullets and Unique.

It appears to be key holing

That's most likely caused by an unsupported target. Note the bullet holes themselves are neat and round, and the target is ripped away from the hole. A true keyhole will show what looks like an off center bullet strike. Firmly attaching the target (tape/staple,etc.) to a cardboard backing will usually fix the problem.
