I just came home and downloaded this vid.

Use a wire saw, a small vice , 60 grit sand paper and a block of wood.

I just need to weld and file, so part 2 soon enough.

My solution to the #!%*& prices of Chinese AK .223/ 5.56 mags

Basicly I took a wire saw and cut alongside the front lockup , removing about 1.5 mm from each cut.

Then I pressed the walls together until they met and stayed. I want to tack and clean these up.

I want to add 5 mm more material below the front lock up, clean it up and I think it will hold the mags front at the right additude.

I sanded the sides of the mag to make fitting the mag smoother when placing or removing the mag.

I also sanded the front top of the mags rounded corners open, sanded from the top.

After pinching the front untilll the cuts closed, I also sanded the sides for smoother entry/exit.

I also sanded about 2 mm off each side of the front sides of the follower.

could you peen some metal on the back by the latch on the gali mag, it may keep the mag forward better.looks like there could be grayling in them waters. thanks for the vid.

The rear lock up tab is just perfect, its in need of materials in the front tab that hangs the mag in the trunnion. A simple pass or three with a wire feed and a bit of file work, and it'lll be done.

Theres planty of Grayling, Whitefish, Dolly Varden , Pink and Chum Salmon in there as I tap keys. We have alot of fish dryed up, but its so hot (80s) itll make our fish rancid, so we take the 4th off and bring it home. Was different when there were dogs to feed, they didnt care about quality.....LOL!!

you could used a small shank from a old drill bit and just weld on both sides. i would love to do a fishing or hunting trip up there, but ill never have the money, think my dads cousin still lives up there tho. i get tired of the 5 hour drive to salmon fish here in new york.

but its so hot (80s)

I don't feel your pain, around here that would be record lows :)

Yowser! $185 for Norinco .223 mag??? I've got seven of them. I'd never expected they'd be worth more than the gun!
I've modified Galil mags to work in my Saiga .223

I love the Alaskan "make do" creativity!

Indeed, try look a Chinese mag, .223 on Gunbroker.

Ive modded the Israeli Orlite (plastic?) magazines by removing materials that let them fit the mag well, and no need to mess with the front mag catch/stud, as the Russian Trunnion fits it well enough, and Ive made the same Orlite mags fit a Romanian SAR-3 , which fits just about any/alll mags, except the Chinese.

I dont have any Orlite's to try, but I fear fixing the front mag catch would be beyond me, maybe a glue could be had, I donno........so I tryed steel and it works. Now, when I have time, Ill get out the hum box and tack tack weld....

If not for these guns’ prices and relative mag scarcity, I gladly would have bought a Norinco 223/5.56 “AK”.

But bought a Mak 90 (straight cut) instead. So much simpler: both the gun’s price and using the same mags as my other imported AKs.

Having this Chinese, a true TGI Hungarian, Maadi and Romy with chf barrels brought very solid character to the ‘family’.
