take a look at the 800 series from Taurus. I got my 840 for under $400 out the door, with a box of ammo AND some cleaning supplies. The trigger on it is far superior than the Ruger, but the only downside is almost no aftermarket support as of yet.
Serpa for a 24/7 fits like a glove. +1 on the trigger.
 
Bought a used p95 last year for my son. Shoots nice, more accurate than me and eats everything from my lead reloads to factory hollowpoints. Maybe some parts have to be gotten from Ruger, but you know years from now they'll still be available. Another son owns a Stoeger cougar, nice gun also. A little more money though and you're in SR9/c territory. Real nice pistol in my limited experience.
