Cheapest FF HG possible?

Ok I have recently bought a rifle and it kind of broke the bank sig m400 enhanced (1200$) I have decided to upgrade it as it will be my primary hunting firearm and my only home defense and shtf weapon (im talking looters etc like in katrina not some radioactive zombie apocalypse) I've decided to get both a bipod and a vertical fore grip. (not at once ;) ) I have decided on a magpul RVG

So as you can see I'm on a budget and id like to keep this fairly cheap. I was hoping you could recomend a FF hand guard 150$ or less. I understand if its not possible but id atleast like to be close. All help/advice/criticism is appreciated, hopefully this post wasent too long :eek:
 
IMHO, take the funds you have available for the grip, bipod and FF tube and add that to your scope / mount budget. Not what you're asking, but it would be the best bang for your buck.
 
I don't see the need for a FF tube.

Do you? Stock hand guards are hunting accurate and lighter. You can mount your bipod and RVG too.
 
I havent had a chance to test it yet but ive heard that without a FF hand guard if i dont grip the weapon the same way every time i could shift the poi greatly. The range I will be hunting at is around 400-500 yards, so a bit of a shift could cause a problem.
 
You're not doing any ethical hunting at 500 yards with a .223. Varmints sure, but you didn't buy a varmit rifle, and a FF tube won't make it one.
 
Ok I have used 75 grain otm ammo to take 3 deer at that range not once did one run, this is taking spine shots and one heart shot. I dont just shoot if I see it I'm patient about my shots and never shoot at that long of a range if there is more than just a very very slight cross wind. I've taken 1 dog at 600-700 yards (these dogs are diseased and vicious im not a pet killer.) If you could recomend a similar scope of a better quality for the same price id be thankful. I had an off brand 3-9x bushnell scope previously that was gifted to me, but i sold the rifle and scope because of a few financial problems.
 
Check out Burris tac 30. They run about $300 and would be a good 1-4 power scope. At 300 yds, you should be able to keep it on a 8" target no problem. Only complaint is the illumination, even at lowest setting, will wash out the target at night.

A decent range finder is needed if you're going to take shots at any extended range. I suspect a range finder would confirm my suspicion that you're not shooting as far as you think.
 
Buy ammo, and shoot the hell out of your rifle. Money doesn't go as far as it used to with ammo, but it still gets you somewhere. You have a nice rifle, and you've already said you stretched your budget to get it. Don't start "enhancing" it with a bunch of cheap crap that you don't even know you need.

Interesting. A bolt gun isn't an AR-15, and your 3x optic isn't going to be the same as even a budget hunting scope.

Thank you guys for the help, I'll check on the range to see if it is infact 500 yards or so. (I use land marks, high lines and markers to estimate the range). I will go ahead and get the burris fullfield tac 30 and a magpul moe vfg :) thanks guys. I really do think this scope will work better for what i had in mind and after reading reviews im convinced its good enough for what i need it for. :) and yea ammo isnt cheap but the price isnt whats killing me its the availability (id prefer not to buy ammo online due to problems with the postal services in this area.)
