I've decided I should probably shoot my shotgun more often... where have you guys gotten affordable slugs and buckshot? I picked up some slugs for $5 a box at cabelas... but $1 a shot still seems kind of expensive. Any input is appreciated!

Midway had that S&B buck on sale for $65/case last week; they probably will again before fall.

Perfect guys, just what I was looking for. Anybody have a lead on some cheap slugs, by chance?

A bulk buy of Fiocci Aero Slugs will probably be your best bet. Just looking on midway a crate of 80 is 84 cents a round.

By any chance are you set up to reload and cast? Once you've invested in the required equipment, a home-cast lyman slug can be loaded into a recycled AA or STS hull for pennies a piece.

I currently reload and cast for handgun and rifle, I don't have a shotshell reloader. It's always be a thought that I'd some day get one... I just don't shoot shotguns as much as my handguns or rifles, I might look into getting set up for it though. Can you use any hull? When I go shoot I usually save my hulls but I mostly have ones from shotshells, not as many from slugs or buck. Most of what I have are just cheap bulk stuff ("gunclub" Or "target" stuff. Remington I believe).

A couple years ago we had Nobel Strike slugs for $5.99/10. Look like Brennekes, heavy, 1 1/4oz. I bought 10 boxes and shoot a few now and then. Accurate out of my 695K.

The catch with shotshell reloading is that you have to follow load data pretty much to the letter. With metallic reloading, a case is pretty much a case and a large rifle primer is a large rifle primer. Not so with shotshell. Simply changing brands of primer can cause substantial and potentially dangerous pressure differences.

That said, there are plenty of slug loads available for the most common hulls such as Win AA trap hulls, which are often overflowing trash barrels at ranges. It's definitely best to research load data before investing in components.

A couple of sites to check for ammo:

S&B 00 buck is cheap right now, and a pretty good practice round. A few things to note: after shipping, you are at about .35 cents a round; S&B is a really dirty ammo, so you will need to clean a little after shooting; S&B does not mention it, but it is a reduced recoil round, which is great because patterns are more than acceptable for both practice and cheap HD uses.

A little way down the list, there are Fiocchi LR exacta slugs for about 167 a case before shipping. This is also a pretty good price for practice ammo, though, I have no knowledge of how well they work.

I hope this helps a little bit, have a good one!

On occasion I've found our local Walmarts will sell 15 round boxes of slugs from Winchester for less than $10. Very few hunt with slug here in Colorado so they clear them out sometimes.

I have bought most of my buckshot from Cabelas or Sportsman's Warehouse when on sale which is usually right before hunting season, general cost for the inexpensive brands like S&B, Rio or Estate was around $11-$12 per 25 rounds. Walmart also has good prices on shotgun shells but their stock of buckshot and slugs is unpredictable.

Walmart near me had Suprema brand 00 buck for $11.99 a box of 25. I bought a bunch of that, and it's good for range use.
