Re: Doug's post in the TN THR shoot thread.

He's right, of course. If I can arrange to have the range closed long enough, who's willing to donate a day and help clean the place up?

I found out who to speak with at TWRA, but haven't been able to reach him yet.

I need to get some idea of how many people and what day before I talk to him, anyway.

Hey guys just drop me a line through email or PM when you figure out when we are doing this. Barring any unforseen obligations I would be more than happy to help out.

In reality this is really something we should do every couple of months or somebody should do every couple of months anyway.

Chris

Ill help....and seeing how darrin cant speak for himself...Ill voleteer him as he would me :D.

I wouldnt have a problem if we could have the range closed for clean up once a month on a saturday or sunday morning for a couple hours or such before its too early. Maybe the warden would let us have some fringe benifits of like getting first shot at new boards. But id be willing to pick up trash. considering ther is a dumpster already there, shouldnt be a problem.

Unfortuantely, we aren't the only ones who use the range, so getting it shut down may turn out to not be an option. However, I would hope that anyone driving up to use the range would be understanding, and hopefully might even be willing to join in. Whenever we do decide to do this, we may want to get out there as early in the morning as possible.

If anyone has a wheel-barrow, that would be quite useful in hauling the garbage to the dumpster. Also, rakes, shovels, trash bags, etc. would be handy. If anyone can volunteer tools, that would be great.

Frank

Tools are a must...rakes, a wheel barrow, broom or two, shovel.

But OEF...If glockten can get the warden or someone at the TWRA station up there to come down and stand/park infront of the gate or such for an hour or so we could do it. I know the TWRA is always very apprecative of volenteers as I was good friends with a park ranger, sister dated his son :D and he was my scout master, he was always more than willing to oblidge anyone wanting to help out the place. If we are willing to work, and be flexable enough, they will likely help us. LOL nothing else...anyone involved with andy scouts down here? Could be someone's Eagle Project. Clean up and improve the range with barrels, new seats, target holders and such. Man if I had a project like that when I went for my Eagle....It would have been butta :D

How many could do it this weekend (20th or 21st)?

or

How many would prefer the 27th or 28th?

I'm good for any weekend. If we do it on Saturday, I may not be able to get there prior to 10 or 11, due to work.

Heck, my schedule during the week is open too, except for Monday and Tuesday, so I could contribute some time then, if need be.

Frank

I would be glad to help but I do have prior plans for this weekend. If it is determaned that it will be done this weekend I do have a wheel barrel that I would loan to thoes that do, I also have several hand tools that I would be glad to let be used.

I can donate a case of big trash bags to use if I can't make.

If somebody wants to PM me we can arrange a meet.

Sunday, the 28th sounds like a plan to me. We really should plan on being there VERY early, in order to beat the shooters out there. Or, we can shoot a bit and clean up later, after everyone else is done for the day, but it could be dusk before that happens.

I just spoke with the Area Manager's office. A crew is up there today cleaning up and replacing target stands, so our efforts shouldn't be needed, this month.

For future reference, I was told that whenever we want to clean the place up, go right ahead and do it. That may mean getting there early enough to get started before any shooters show up. Maybe make a "RANGE CLOSED-CLEANUP IN PROGRESS" sign, and block the gate with a vehicle.

Another option would be hanging around at the end of the day, and doing it after everyone else leaves.

Maybe we can make the latter option SOP for THR shoots.

FYI, the range came very near being closed permanently.

I was told because of the trash, and probably because of the condition of the target stands also.

Dave,

Thanks for doing the leg work. We'll have to ensure we clean up after ourselves from now on.

TN Mafia Shoot rules:
1 - 4) Standard data
5) Your mother doesn't shoot here, clean up after yourself!

I know where we could get some 55 Gal plastic drums for $5.00 ea. BE good for trash. just an idea

Yea why dont we plan for the next shoot to take place either at the butt crack of dawn or dusk. And just plan on doing some clean work before or after. Would mean saturday's or early sundays probaly.

I dont know if barrels would help or not, they might. Problem is people using them, then people emptying them. I wouldnt mind putting in a few bucks to buy some cheap lumber to replace/make more seats, buy some cinder blocks to replace the busted ones that sorta thing. but one step at a time. maybe if we can get in good with the ranger and he knows we are willing to help him we can help keep that place nice and open for time to come.
