On vacation in Virgina Beach, wife and I went to visit the lighthouses on Cape Henry. I knew from the map that they were on a military reservation, but rather assumed that it was as open to the public as a federal park. Not so. At the gate, I had to show a driver's license, was asked if I had guns or explosives in the car, and we were asked to exit the car leaving all the doors, glove box, and hood open while they inspected it, and checked under the car with mirrors. They we were instructed as to where the lighthouses and gift shops are, admonished to return by the same route, and told to have a nice day. By the way, the polite gentlemen were all Wackenhut rent-an-mp types, not Army. Did you ever run into a gun check where you didn't expect it?
