Disregarding scenarios and individual uses, does everyone here have a single platform that is generally preferred?

For me it would be the M1A. This rifle does everything I think a rifle should do. It suits me and my shooting style, and fits me in every regard. The balance, ergonomics and control placement are all ideal. All of it combines to make the shooting experience almost magical for me.

Is this just me, or does everyone have a single platform that they enjoy shooting more than others, and which inspires a degree of operational confidence and affection absent to other designs? If so, what if your chosen platform?

AR15/AR10. You can do anything with it.

Hi-power competition
Practical shooting
Precision shooting
Varmint hunting
Deer hunting
Home defense

You can have 22lr, .223, 9mm, 45, 308, 6.8, rifle or pistol, 20" or 7" barrel.

10, 20, 30, even 100 round magazines.

Any kind of optics.

All you need is a stripped lower to start with and you can do anything you want from there.

I voted for the "Rem M700, Win M70, or other bolt action" category as this is what I prefer for for hunting, but I just built my first MForgery last week :)

M14 style rifle, the 7.62 is a good all around caliber, great for targets out past 800m. With a sage stock you can have all the bells and whistles as a AR

"Platform" is dependent on intended use.
I wouldn't use an "AR" type rifle deer hunting, but it would be my first choice in an "across the course"/IPSC/SHTF application.

I really like a Lever action, But I prefer a Bolt action for longer ranging Hunting. If Obamanation happens to end up as president, I will be looking for my first AR.

had an AR for only a month now and already love it more than my beloved AK.

*Generally* preferred is a bolt action, because the *general* activity with guns actually getting used is hunting. But should social order break down (not likely), then the AR15 & AR10 style rifles have a lot going for them, not the least being the same manual arms if switching from the little one to the big one and vice versa.

I think your poll should have had leverguns and pump guns in it. :p

I heart my FAL, the only draw back is that it is over 10 pounds, easy, especially with ammo. But, im 6'8" 305, so it doesnt bother me too much. you get the distance of an ar15, but with much greater stopping power.

PremiumSauces *...the same manual arms if switching from the little one to the big one and vice versa.

I can't argue with that

i love the m1a i really do but, i am much better trained and have spent alot more time with the ar/m4/m16 series, and that is what i would take into a fight.
