    Hello Everyone,

SPOILER NOTICE: Content from the new "Batman Begins" movie is discussed in this thread so please do not read any further unless you want to know more.

Has anyone else noted the scene in "Batman Begins" in which Liam Neeson is teaching a young Bruce Wayne how to fight with a sword and he states that the reason his unarmed parents were gunned down successfully by a mugger is because Bruce's father failed to act? In other words, to try and stop the mugger from hurting them.

This is a very progun view in my experience and was quite surprised to see it in a mainstream hollywood movie. Of course, DC Comics seems to have made this version and that would fall in line with many comic books themes.

    Thoughts?

That comment was also made to enrage Bruce Wayne...

Real, actual spoiler warning, for those who didn't heed Anthony's warning.

That comment was also made by the guy who turns out to be the bad guy. Because of that, any pro-gun message that might be found in it will be washed away in the minds of the general public, because everything he said becomes tainted.

Thing is, I found myself agreeing with a lot of what Neeson's character had to say. But he took his philosophies too far, and imposed them on others, violating their rights in the process.

+1 for not being soft on crime.
-500 for killing thousands of innocents to make sure that the bad guys don't have fertile soil.

    Namaste,
    -BP

Given the nature of that movie, which I enjoyed immensely, Neeson's comments could have been pro-sword rather than pro-gun. :D

The overall sentiment, though, is that people need to take back their city from the bad guys. That evil flourishes while good people do nothing.

That's a good message to have in a big-time movie like this.

If anything it shows that poor folks ain't too appreciative of rich folks, and rich folks are dumb if they walk down dirty alleys at night.

Common comic book theme. Spider Man became a vigilante because his failure to act left his grandparents dead.

Raising this from the the depths of thread despair!!!

Only because I just watched the movie for the first time...

Note at the end of the film that Wayne calls himself a "coward with a gun" to describe what he was before his decision to wander the world like Kane in Kung-Fu.

Further spoiler notes for anyone who hasn't wasted their money on this flick.

Its a movie and nothing it says should be taken seriously. Stay vigilant of your own accord and don't worry about what DC Comics has to say.
