I've been setting the chrono about 10-12' in front of me for pistol measurements, Is that distance adequate to avoid muzzle blast for 223 and 30-30 rifle rounds as well?

for most pistols I can shoot within 10' or so. the 44 mag and ar-15 needs about 15', and the FAL needs about 15'-20'. When I tried shooting any closer with the rifles, I'd get false readings from what I presume is muzzle blast.

I can do 10ft with my 30-06 Garand with a Beta Master Chrony, and that's just because I have the cable marked at 10ft for pistol work and haven't bothered to measure a 15ft or 20 ft mark. Also my rifle range firing line has a big drop off in front of it that limits how far away I can put the tripod. It's probably a little close, but I get consistent measurements. I get more problems with shooters in other lanes, so I only chorny if I can get set up somewhere by myself or far down the line from other shooters. I think that as long as the muzzle blast is from the shot I'm measuring, the machine has already caught the bullet at both sensors and hasn't reset yet.

I've chrono'd everything from 22lr to 300 Win Mag from 10 feet away...never an issue.
