I'm going to the range tomorrow, and will try to do a review of the product in the next few days.
This will be a very short review of the Garmin Xero C1. I charged it to 100% on Saturday after I got it. I took it shooting on Sunday.
My intent on Sunday was mostly to confirm operation of the unit, which IMO was almost flawless. Flaws were limited to some missed shots because I was firing too fast. My unit needed a second or two to register the shot before being ready to read the next round fired. With the exception of one shot, as long as I waited 2-3 seconds between shots it picked up every shot. The one exception happened when I wasn't paying attention and I think I moved to far away from the unit, or more than the 15" specified as max distance. So flaws were user error.
Velocity numbers were more or less as expected, with my 45acp 185gr target rounds being in the 730-760 fps range and my .223 Rem 62gr fmj's clocking in the 2750-2800 fps range. I fired some Remington UMC 230gr fmj's and they were in the 830 fps range. I have no way of verifying the accuracy of the readings, other than having run a few of my 45acp target rounds over a Labradar a few months ago, and the numbers were similar then to what I got with the Garmin last weekend.
On the unit itself, all four of the buttons worked as they should, with a nice "feel" when pressed. The user interface was easy to navigate and fairly self explanatory. The screen was easy to both see and read with the default display settings, even though it is somewhat small. The tripod worked perfectly, but doesn't extend to allow a higher positioning above the bench than a few inches. Aiming the unit was stupid easy, I pointed it toward the target and it just worked. I'm sure I had it aimed close but never spent more than a few seconds pointing it towards the target. And finally, it never picked up a single shot from the benches on either side, which are about six feet or so away.
Battery life was good. I was at the range for about 3 hours, and forgot several times to turn the unit off. The unit is currently showing 82% battery life left. There is a battery icon on the screen when the unit is on, but to get the percentage the unit needs to be plugged in, I.E. charging.
Overall, I enjoyed using it. I realize that I have a lot to learn about reloading in order to get small ES and SD numbers, although my ammo is accurate enough for my needs at my intended ranges. I plan on taking notes on my next range trip, and logging the information I get for analysis upon my return home.
