I am looking at getting a new chronograph....looking at the caldwell G2, and wondering if anyone else has any suggestions.

Things I like are the lights....I plan on using this for my air rifles as well and those are shot indoors, so lights are a plus.

Bluetooth may be nice but I read some problems with it dropping....can you save your strings? I can do the math to put a long string together if need be.

Any suggestions on others in that same sub $200 price range....and I really want the lights, and these are in the unit, not an extra thing to mess with.

Thanks.

Crickets.....wow.

Welp I ordered the G2, not sure anyone is interested but if anyone is I will let you know how the tablet app works, the low light works.....if I get no replies back I will just let the thread die.

This thread might work best in the Handloading forum. Lots of threads over there on chronographs that seem to be well visited.

I just bought a Labradar, so I cannot help you directly, but I bet if you post this over in that thread or ask the mods to move it, you will be better information.

Good luck with your new chronograph.

Thanks....

How do you like that....was a bit out of my price range but it sure did look nice.

I *LOVE* it. No issues with light, clouds, etc. I also love that I do not need to have a cold range to set it up, and can use it anywhere, even an indoor range.

I never have to worry about shooting it ("lead poisoning") and it tracks bullet velocity out to 100 yards or more at multiple set points. There are optional accessories that you might need to purchase to use with air rifles, but don't quote me on that.

They are also supposed to release their Bluetooth option at any time now. The feature is already built into the unit, but they are still developing their software app.

Pricey? Absolutely! Do I regret the purchase? Not for one second!

It took me forever to decide to pull the trigger on this purchase due to the price. There are so many ways I can spend $560 that I can think of! Now that I finally have it, I wonder how I lived without it for so long. Seriously.

Buy once, cry once.

Right now I have 3 chronographs two at the house and I keep on at the farm these days.

I use the Shooting Chrony most often, with a coupon out of the paper, I picked it up for $20 around 14 years ago. The only thing it's needed is batteries, it is simple and works.

I needed it one night to help a kid finish collecting some data for a science project and had some white cardboard and a flashlight. Doesn't look especially neat or cool but works.

Also, if you get a headphone jack and a momentary switch you get a lot more features out of them. I can't really come up with a reason they didn't put a button on the thing to begin with. There are folks that have owned these for years, that don't know what they can do.

I also have the magnetospeed and to me, for the money, it is the best thing out there. It fits in that medium price range but, it isn't effected by light which is nice. You don't have to sit anything out on the range. You can export the data into your PC easily.
FWIW: I have used it with my air rifle and it seems to work great with it.

Ive had a Competition Electronics ProChrono for going on 5 years now I believe. I've dropped it, shot it (top corner) and used the snot out of it. Still reads well/accurate and I can't remember the last time it wouldn't read due to unfriendly chronograph conditions. Only ran me $100. Edit: I just read you went with the G2, best of luck!
