Hi,
So I am finally ready to do a SBR, and a suppressor a short time after. I live in SD, and was wondering if anyone on this site has had any first hand experience with the dealers? I know there are a handful to pick from, but would like to know who are good, and who arent so good. As of now I have heard quite a few great things about Mike Cotton, In Volga! Other than that I havent heard to much! Either way any advice would be great, and I thank you for your wisdom in advance. Some ppl might criticize me but I am looking at getting a Robinson Arms Mini, and I am undecided on a suppressor. I want something different, and I think the mini will do what I want. So any advice would be great, thanks.

Sam,
What side of the state are you on? I am a 07/02 on the west side of the state around Wall. There is only a handful of active SOTs in the state that keep stuff on hand. Mike is a freind of mine and if you closer to him then you are to me Id recommend him without a 2nd thought, hes a strait up kind of guy.

Shop around for prices alittle and you might be suprised to find out how wide the price ranges are from dealer to dealer. Theres on a few of us who do machine work ( myself included but most dont). If your around Souix Falls maybe call Leo Hess over at Full Blast Eng. He another good one to deal with. There are 1 or 2 larger shops in the state that have SOTs and they do sell silencers but like I said before, before you buy you would be wise to shop around.

If you have any questions feel free to shot me a PM or if your closer to Mike I can put you intouch with him if need be.

MrM4, thank you very much for the good advice! I actually live in Vermillion, SD so Sioux Falls is closer, but Volga isnt to bad. I actually went to college at SDSU, so I know the area, and some of the gun dealers in the area. I really do appreciate your quick response, and am excited to get the ball moving! :)

No problem, considering your location you might make a quick call to either Leo or Mike, both good guys that would treat you good. Be sure and post some pics when your SBR is done.
Matt

I live in Vermillion as well. So far I've used Jim Enga in Madison for all my NFA stuff, because he's a friend of my brothers and I've known him for years so I consider him a friend as well. Jim's a great guy, with good rates on NFA transfers, a few things in stock, and he has a 50-500yd range right in his back yard to try stuff out. Also, my brother lives in Madison, so it's a good excuse to get up there to visit whenever I need to pick something up. I'm not sure I'd recommend the hour and a half drive for everyone, but it works for me.

I've heard good things about Mike Cotton as well, but I've never talked to him. I've talked quite a bit with Brandon Maddox of SD Silencer, but I've never bought anything from him (yet). Brandon's father-in-law lives in Vermillion and runs a well-known business in the middle of town, so Brandon makes in down here occasionally.

Otherwise I don't have any first-hand experience with anyone except Gary's, and I'm not going to give them my business, so I won't recommend them to you. I've never bought any NFA stuff from them though.

You will like the XCR. I don't know if you have tried their forum but there are several members with XCR and/or silencers (suppressors). Aziator is an US Army Pilot on their forum and can help you. Actually, you can call Alex Robinson direct and they can build what you want in the caliber you want.

I am from Sioux Falls, but am military retired and living in Alabama. :cuss: You can keep the winter for yourself as far as I am concerned.

At least in Alabama I can find my spent brass all year long......:neener:
