Classic or New?

Looking at either a CZ 50 or a KelTec P17. The KelTec would set me back $240+ transfer and taxes, the CZ would be about a $100 more and only in fair shape but since I have a C&R it would be a direct ship to me, no transfer fee.





I am leaning more towards the KelTec but I do like that CZ 50 and no, I will not buy both, can't afford it.

 

Hold your money until you can find a CZ70. They have better metallurgy in the slides and do not deform where they ride over the hammer spur.

 

There is one, also just in fair condition for about $50 more.

 

If money is an issue I would go with the Kel Tec. Ammo is cheaper too.

 

I consider new firearms as tools and they get treated as such.

Older, out of production guns, I enjoy shooting and owning, but I do not subject them to every day carry.

My choice, it may not be yours.

 

I have no intention on carrying them just owning and shooting them.

 

I’ll vote similar to the way I vote in the election; not for a choice, but against. In this case... a vote against the keltec.

I bet the cz is much more satisfying to play with. Certainly easier on the eye.

 

Save your money; you're buying down to a price, not for what you might really want.

Good plan.

I've collected K-frames S&W revolvers of the various blued frames with adjustable sights with the different standard available barrel length.

Getting the correct revolver tossed out not not the helicopter is a note from the cast on the helicopter.

 

I have a CZ70 and the trigger spring popped on me before I got to fire it. Neat little firearm, like the thing - just like it. Look up who has a trigger spring available for the CZ70 ... I got tired of looking and measured the broken one, and wound one up myself, and eventually got it to work. This is always the issue with a classic or older firearm is parts may not be readily available. The CZ also shoots .32 ACP, which is a fun little cartrdige for plinking and has some interesting history to it.

If it were me I don't think I'd get either of those, I'd be looking at the Ruger Mark series or similar offerings from other manufacturers. Nothing agaist that Keltec, but I'd just go for a .22 target pistol to shoot for fun if I didn't already have one.

 

I like small surplus 32's, but had a CZ70 and wasn't impressed with it.

 

Ya might want to have your clairvoyance checked, it's not working correctly.

 

incidentally, the CZ70, all steel little blowback is one of my favorite range toys.

 

I bought two matching high condition CZ50's in 1999/2000 timeframe. I had the feed ramps polished and gave one to my Dad for a compact walkabout gun on the property. They both demonstrated the slide deformation described above, so I put them on consignment, saving extra accumulated mags for eventually finding the "right" CZ70. They are not PPK quality, but perfectly serviceable- perhaps needing just some minor fit/finish adjustments like feed ramp attention.

 

Seem many people think the P17 is ugly, I think it's cool looking and after it's initial release there were apparently some teething issues that have since been addressed by Kel-Tec. It will run anything you put through it which is more than can be said for the Glock 44 which doesn't like 36 grain rounds.

Yup, I'm going to go with the P17, at least it's new and has a warranty if something does go wrong.

Kelgren has been making hideous cheap looking guns for at least 30 years. Lol.

I’d get neither… a Ruger mark for “serious” fun and some other vintage .32 for old steel gun. I’d find a worn Colt 1903 for around 500 (may take some doing but they’re out there.)

 

Especially on the keltec

 

I really thank you all for your opinions, I know some of you mean well but don't be upset if I don't follow your opinions. I will be buying the Kel-Tec because these days everyone who owns one has nothing but glowing praise for it.

 

Good choice. I shoot my 22's more than anything else. Cheap and fun and good practice.
