Cleaned my 617

I had my 617 out to the range the other day so it ended up dirty. Sure love shooting this thing. It makes me look like I know what I am doing. I shot this at 21 feet, offhand, double action

It has been a while so I decided to do a deep clean. I used Mothers mag wheel cleaner with very light pressure. The goal was to clean any dirt and powder residue imbedded in the metal, not to polish. Turned out pretty nice


I even got the burn rings off the cylinder face for the first time since I bought it new in 2017

That's a beautiful gun. Someday I hope to stumble on one for a steal. Seems like every time I find one it has the longer barrel. 4 inch is where it's at for me.

When I was shopping for one, the shop had both the 4 and 6 inch. I was somewhat undecided on which I wanted but leaning towards the 4 inch. Handling them both side by side was all I needed to complete my choice and I am glad I got the 4 inch

You did a fantastic job cleaning yours up. I need to take mine and put the cylinder in my sonic cleaner and spend some time giving it a thorough cleaning. I shoot it a lot.

I've done all the gunsmithing myself and really enjoy working on it but totally enjoy shooting it. I now shoot our local Steel Challenge Matches with the 617 and get lots of comments.

Get some DS-10 speed loaders. They really help when you shoot competitions.

When I was shopping for one, the shop had both the 4 and 6 inch.

I had to hunt for my 4 inch. Actually I had to buy it online. The newer 6 inch full underlug 22 really doesn't feel as good to me. My older K-22s feel ok with a 6 inch barrel though.

I wrangled over a 617 or a Mk IV and a 10/22 International on the Buds Gunshop website last spring.

I ended up going with both Rugers, they were about 125 bucks more together than the 617 was solo.

I’ll come back for a 617 someday, it’ll make a nice companion for the 686+ .357 I have.

Great shooting and a fantastic clean up, your gun looks brand new .

I shoot y 617 so much I gave up on cleaning it, just run oil patches. I wish S&W made a 10 round 22 mag revolver.
