Easy question. Search didn't turn up much. What is the cleanest yet affordable (under $20/500) 22 ammo?
It's primarily for a Ruger MK III if that makes any difference.

I'm going to go with Federal Automatch for the cleanest bulk .22.

In my experience, though, the Ruger .22 autos aren't too fussy about being kept clean.

CCI Mini-Mags. Though they're probably a bit over $4 per hundred now.

Try like double that price in some retail stores. Some of the cleanest .22 ammo I've found, though it has gotten very pricey as of late, is the Wolf Match Target. Very accurate, and coated with some sort of clear lubricant, they are some of the cleanest shooting .22's I've ever encountered.

+1 on the CCI min mags. They are about 6.50 per 100 these days, but they shoot very clean, are consistent in quality, and have never misfed or jammed in my S&W 22A. When I'm done, all I need to do is run a boresnake down the barrel and brush out the breach area. Then a quick wipe down.

Federal Lighting is clean enough and cheap for my Anschutz rifle and Anschutz Exemplar pistol.

I have CCI high & subsonic velocity. Also have some CB Longs. They are primer only with a 29 grain bullett. 700 fps great for backyard or city shooting

I find the Federal bulk pack that are copper washed and the Rem Gold to be fairly clean out of my SAS .22

Anything that is just regular lead tends to foul around the forcing cone pretty badly.

The mini mags are alright but over priced when them bulk packs run just as clean.

The federal gameshoks usually don't gunk up my pistols too bad. I think there is a bulk pack for them, but I usually pick them up in the 100 bricks.

I didn't care for Peter's, Blazer, or American Eagle. A little dirty if you ask me.

I really like CCI mini mags.
I bought the 550 round pack of federals at wal mart and a number of them failed to fire. The primer is dented.
I never had a malfunction of any kind in my Browning Buck with CCI mini mags.

I just shot a box of federal and only had one week boom. It doesn't cycle the gun when that happens, but it doesn't take long to clear. 1 in 300 isn't bad enough to make me spend more for the minis.

Federal American Eagle 38 gr HVHPs. They shoot very cleanly in my Colt .22/.45 conversion unit with floating chamber, which is very sensitive to fouling. With some brands it would plug up in less than 50 rounds. With this I probably go 350-400 rounds before clean it on principle.

I use the same ammo in my other .22 semiautos. I do get the odd misfire from time to time, though.

I generally plink with whatever I can buy in bulk packs for the lowest price. But I have CCI Stingers for Zombie or Squirrel attacks.
