Cleaning my 650 for the first time...

This probably should have been done a LONG time ago, as a lot of stuff is pretty well caked in crud, but anyhow...

1) Where do you lube and what do you use?

2) I had a spring fly out and hit the ground at some point after the shell plate was off and I don't know what it is for or where it goes... it is circled in the picture. Does anyone know? Thanks for any other advice or tips.

The detent ball under the shell plate? That spring is near the top left corner of the pic... I'm wondering about the thin one circled in red.
 
Just pulled the shellplate off my 650 and looked at the springs. It's not the detent ball spring, your diameter is too small for that. It's not the indexing pawl spring, it's too long for that.

Out of the ones I can see without taking more part, it looks most like the one on the primer feed that returns the arm, number 11 on page 53.
 
yes!I believe it came out from under the arm that indexes the case in station 2, on the priming system. Thanks!
 
I had the same spring fly out when I changed a shell plate. The spring keeps pressure on the tab in your powder station. When you pull a shell out of station two the tab should have pressure on it but right now it will just stay where you push it. There is a screw on top of the tab remove it compress the spring into the groove and replace the tab. Tighten the screw down but not too tight. If dont correctly it will keep tension on the shell in station two but if you remove the shell it will spring back into place. If I was home I'd take a picture for you.
 
I took the whole primer system pretty much all the way apart to clean it (along with all the other parts that will readily come off the ram and case feed system).

Also I've only ever loaded 9mm on this press, but put it back together with .223 parts and sized 500 of those last night... SO much easier than single stage obviously.
