Any thoughts on a decent cleaning rest for rifles and shotguns?

I did a search for "cleaning rest" and came up with nada.

No specific link handy but .. do a search on ''MTM Case-gard'' ....... there is a large unit for the purpose ... and also a smaller range portable deal which doubles as a rifle rest etc.

Probably best value IMO but others have some classy stuff for sale if you wanna spend. Cabelas i think have one of the up-market deals.

My MTM stuff does the job for me.

See MTM's range of cleaning stands here. I use this one - very handy indeed.

I bought the one that Preacherman shows above at Wal-Mart two weeks ago for about $28.

    All the best,

I love the one I got from Sinclair's... It cost more, but you can take it apart.

Charlie Hood has a beautiful one that integrates a pair of cleaning rod holders.

I use the Sinclair cradle myself. I got the one for benchrest rifles, but I can replace the saddles if I want since as bogie said, it can be taken apart.

I built one out of scrap plywood, poly batting, vinyl, thumbtacks, and an 8" C-clamp.

I use it for cleaning AND it is steady enough for me to install a scope and/or work on the rifle/shotgun.

I received my February Midway flyer today and they have the Tipton Gun Vise (#990-536) on sale complete with a free Tipton 12 piece solid brass cleaning jag set for 54.99. The vise itself usually sells for 69.98

The Tipton gun vise is a very good item for cleaning and working on scopes, etc. It holds the rifle much steadier than a cradle. I bought one (Midway brand, but same one) several years ago and am very glad I did.
