At home, posting on THR instead of working.
An incident that I witnessed yesterday made me think about the possible outcomes in a sharp vs blunt altercation.

There was a road rage incident near my gym. A car had apparently cut a motorcycle off and both motorists stopped by the roadside to "settle" things. The biker dismounted and whipped out a switchblade. The driver got out, reached into his backseat and pulled out a hefty wooden softball/baseball bat.
:uhoh:

Upon seeing this, the biker stashed his blade, got back on his kawasaki and rode away at full throttle. I suppose the biker was intimidated with the size of the other guy's bat or was an unexperienced showoff.

U guys ever witnessed any impact weapon vs sharp weapon fights before? What happened? What should an impact weapon user look out for when facing a knife fighter?

The knife guy has to know his ranges very well, and be able to operate through the impact weapon's range into the knife's.

Maybe tricky, maybe not, depending on what the guy with the bat knows. If he's doing the major league thing it's somewhat simpler, if he understands how to use the points it's much tougher.

YMMV

Probably isn't well trained with the knife and just measured the ranges. Or maybe he just snapped back to his freakin' senses when he saw the bat. Knife fight over road rage? Sheesh.

Local road rage btw bike & pickup ended up with biker underneath truck. Automobile beats both knife and bat.

Weapons usage depends on the individual, his/her training and mindset. It's like rock-paper-scissors. Nothing always wins.

For life or death, I'd personally choose knife. For indimidating drunken idiots or punks, a bat would work. Then again, I've trained with knives and batons.

Sorry guys, but the bat usually trumps the blade for anyone but skilled knife fighters. A stick has all the advantages of reach, speed, and flexability. The only way to beat a stick is to step inside (very difficult to train people to do) and work fast at disabeling/downing your opponent.

I have had my bell rung and my arm bruised with padded flexable practice sticks on knife on stick drills a couple of times.
