I have always liked the Jeff Cooper Thumper idea, but none have ever really been available. Its been a while since i read about it but the idea is a short barreled carbine, detachable magazine, in caliber 44 Automag.

The CMMG Banshee AR pistol with brace in 10mm meets most of the criteria... the chambering is a little short of what Cooper specified, but I don't think he had many complaints about 10mm. It does not have iron sites... but with the passage of time I think red dots have kind of become a standard, and if you wanted iron sites, you could easily add to the rail.

What do you think? What would Cooper think of this weapon in 10mm? Close enough to Thumper or not?

I always wanted Ruger to take their deerfield carbine, the one based off the mini 30 with a 4 round rotary mag, and scale up the 10/22 banana mag to hold 10-15 rounds of 44 mag. What a weapon that would have been. Call it the hogslayer. Seemed like a simple design modification.

I guess an ar in 450 Bushmaster or 350 legend is as close as we'll get though.
