I just purchased a bag of three of the ss mag followers. I assumed they could be put into any AR15 mag. But I opened up my Colt 20 round and it has a flat spring steel riveted into it so it Ls into the mag bottom to catch the floor plate. There is not way to get the follower into the mag without bending and possibly breaking it. I put them into my 30 round mags and they work fine. But I don't think there is any way to put them into the mag with out breaking it off or bending it up. Anyone else tried this? The problem is I get the rear of the case that will sit just about a sixteenth of an inch down and the bolt will over strip. I have black plastic followers in the colt 20 rounders. Any help appreciated.

Those followers are by far the best I have used, but they do require a bit of modification (to the follower itself and/or the magazine body) with some magazines. I ran into the same issue with some NHMTG 20rnd magazines and ended up removing the catch (the spring steel) in order to use the followers. I just bent the ears that hold the floorplate a bit to make sure that it stays secure. I realize that this is not an ideal solution, but it does work.

OTOH, they seem to fit Lancer L5s (both the 20 & 30rnd variants) as well as USGI 30rnd magazines with little modification, so you might just want to save them for a different magazine (after all, you can never have too many magazines).

mag

I put them in the 30 rd mags I have and will be ordering more for the ones I did not have enough for. I hate to break the keeper of the colt mag. I have four 20 rd colt mags, two have aluminum followers that work fine and two have black plastic that seem to bind up a bit and over strip. I really like the way the seem to work in the 30 rounders. I called CMMG and they had a colt mag with the same metal retaining clip and said they could not see how it would fit into the mag without removing it. The other thing I could not get it to work by turning the spring upside down. The spring kept wanting to come around the follower so I put it in just like it came out and it works fine. The spring can not come out of the detent because it will hit the mag body. These work very well. But if anyone has any ideas about how to fit them in a 20 rd mag I would be keen to hear. Thanks.
