HF1467 is set to be on the floor Thursday 28th, 4-major point to be introduced include "stand your ground" It would remove our "duty to retreat" from a dangerous situation without using deadly force.
Universal recognition, recognizing other states carry-permits therefore allowing other states to recognize our permits,,
Emergency-powers,, To prevent a situation likeness to hurricane katrina,, no mandatory confiscation of firearms during declared emergency
And then of course extension of permit-to-purchase from 1-year to 5-years,
Unfortunately all this has to get past the "Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy and Finance Committee" which im sure will beat this this bill like it owes them money,, so we'll see. it was introduced by 35-bi-partisan co-sponsors,so it has potential,, I have a list of members of said committee available for anybody who can take some time to send them some respectfull encouragement,, cross your fingers,,

If I was still a Minne-sotan I would do my part to "take some time to send them some respectfull encouragement", hope it passes for you.

I sent out 17 E-mails to the Representatives on the committee asking them to support the Bill.

If I am not able to work today I will be able to go down to the Capital building and show some more support.

Yea, Baby ! we got it passed by the safety-committee only by a 10-7 vote.
but now it's unto the judicary committee. And now the anti-gunners are coming out of the cracks in the sidewalks, St Paul's assistant police chief spoke to the media and proclaimed it a "recipe for disaster" and those opposed say that it could be deadly to someone who "mistakenly enters the wrong house and isint armed" yea,,, that happens ALL the time around my neighborhood,,people forget which house is theirs,,

I wasn't aware that the current law required "duty to retreat." Citation?

I don't remember any part of that either...

I was understanding that you can even use deadly force to defend others too. My instructor said that the only qualifier was that you or the bystander must be in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm. How immediate and how much danger is determined in a court of law. I was understanding MN self defense law as fluid, vague, and open to much interpretation.

More reciprocity would be good... ESPECIALLY IN IL AND WI!!! lol!!

Permit to purchase needs to go away all together, it is obsolete and a pointless use of law enforcement's valuable time.

Do you have a link to the bill or a newspaper article on it?

Here's the gritty details, We had our local news do a story on it,and the 5-foot nothing reporter walked up to a house and opened a sliding window and explained that" just doing this could get you shot" (the same reporter that was removed from a trial at our local courthouse cause she was told 2X by the judge to turn off her phone and she was texting people during a live criminal hearing) she went back to KTTC and had her manager call the sheriff, towhich he replied if she does it again she'll be in contempt of court and arrested,, HA HA HA !

And NO, Minnesota does not have a "castle doctrine" I am expected to retreat from my house if possible without using deadly force. (Unless) The perp. is commiting a felony,,
C'mon now if im awoken by breaking glass in middle of night i have to put-on my lawyer-pants and "determine" if they are gonna commit a felony or just a gross-misdeameanor,,, and then what ? i have to keep a stun-gun handy for the misdeameanor-thugs and a pistol for the felons,, Obviously running for senate or house seats dosent always require commen sense,,, of course most of you know that

    For p[osters $5 and #6--

Good thing you send emails. If you can find out when yours elected persons visit the district go there and tell them how you feel. Take a couple like minded shooters along and let em know. give them some piece of literature to support your idea.

Personal visit is many time more effective. make em squirm.

My local reps on board and he's also on the Public Safety Committee. The committee membership doesn't look too bad, and I believe it will pass. To get all the way through, and past Dayton's desk, is another matter however. And as far as MN goes, outside of the dang duty to retreat concept (retreat from my house, my aaaaa...) we have it better than a lot of other states. This bill will go a long way to making it much, much better. (Especially the reciprocity)

Got a few hours to wait yet.

OK it got thru the senate by a marginal 8-6 vote and is headed to house floor TOMMORROW !! sat May 14th ! lil-beady-eye'd Dayton is still saying he dont like it, and just about EVERY anti-gun police-men or ex-police is stepping up to tell everybody how it's gonna endanger police officers ! because THEY may be the one's entering a house by force or "stealthily" Yea ya see them do that all the time ! My local news-rag is a bunch of anti-gunners and is printing and re-printing the articcle with the title "Shoot-first bill" in the title,, and then clearly stating in that article :proponents call the bill a "stand your ground" bill and opponents are calling it a "shoot first " bill,, Guess they have made their views clear !!

There were some police chiefs from here in MN blabbing about how this is gonna get police shot as they chase a perp through peoples back yards...

They assume people are A) STUPID and B) Bloodthirsty. I am so glad that such high ranking officials have such a high opinion of the public that they SERVE. Yes, they serve us and I think they forget that sometimes. I know plenty of police officers, friends and family members. NONE of them share these feelings. They understand that bad people are gonna do bad things and stupid people are gonna do stupid things, but no law should be in place that can imprison a good person for doing what they have to do. You can't get outlaws to follow the law, and you can't legislate away stupidity.

After my first post, I looked into this a bit more and was worried by what I found. How on earth can I round up my three sons, ages 2, 6, and 9, and either escape my home or get everyone into a safe room? I am on my own out here with three little kids, how is this gonna work?

It is easy for people who have never been in real danger to call those of us who have names like "paranoid", "trigger happy", and "gun nuts". I hope they never have to go through that, but they need to be less naive about the way things really are in the real world. It would be a shame for my boys to grow up without a mother or father because dad got 15 in the state pen for saving their lives from an insane meth addict.

The threat to my family currently is doing 5 years in prison. It sure makes me sleep better at night. I wish they would have saved the trouble and locked him up after the first 3 violent felonies, but they decided 90 days was enough and released him to terrorize again. I hear he finally beat a young woman nearly to death in north east MN.

Long story short.... If they can't keep violent animals off the street like that before they do serious harm, how dare they question our right to defend ourselves and our families from them?

    Rant Off...

It passed the House with a 79-50 vote on Saturday. Should be recieved by the Senate today (I don't think they had a similar bill going). They'll send it to committee for consideration and if the committee approves it, it'll come to the floor for a full vote. Unfortunately, the Governor has hinted at a veto, which would take 90 votes in the House to override. He hasn't come out and said he would veto, so there's still a chance.

Well, I was wrong. I went and looked it up, and there is a companion bill already in the Senate, SF1357. It looks like the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety and Finance committees have already approved the bill, so hopefully it won't take much to get this to the floor.

Latest word from the Governor is he thinks:"this bill goes too far" havnt heard when it will be on floor for voting but, The last hurdle is gonna be a battle for this bill,,Im just disgusted at myself for voting for this clown,, I can carry my handgun in public (either concealed or openly) keep my weapons in my house,(loaded if i so choose) BUT if someone breaks in to my house i have to try to evacuate my family to safer area till police arrive ????? :banghead: This country needs some NEW leadership with some common-sense in their melons...

i'm not a minnesotan but i worked there for a few weeks last year. nice fireworks show for the 4th in Minneapolis....and loved that surly furious beer so much that i make some at home now. that "retreat from your house" is crazy talk. I hope this passes. So many laws handicapping good citizens to prevent an accidental shooting, embolden criminals.
